Or it could have been an ammo dump exploding. I'm just saying Iran isn't exactly a reliable source.

Gee, who woulda thunk that murdering a bunch of young college students for protesting a different outright murder of a girl for wearing her hijab too loose (while at the same time backing a genocide in Ukraine), might cause a careless cigarette to be thrown?

Not me, let me tell you!

"Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran" would have been a better headline.

Tomahawk513: Or it could have been an ammo dump exploding. I'm just saying Iran isn't exactly a reliable source.

Apparently there were multiple explosions which is why people started recording footage, ammo dumps don't usually go up in multiple relatively small bursts. But yeah it's very early to be drawing much by way of conclusion and you're right, if the only source is the Iranian government, I'm not buying that either.

Does Iran have any allies, anywhere? Russia might have helped them out, if they weren't busy with a three day war started almost a year ago. Russia is trying to get material from Iran, I doubt Russia will provide much the other way.

Religious differences keep them isolated from most of their neighbors.  Except Iraq has a lot of shiite Muslims, too, but they still have that big war between them in the 80's.

(filters are going to mess up that word)

That's certainly possible, but I'd still bet on Israel. They've been willing to step over the line with Iran more than anyone in the past, and if the regime looks weak, they might think an attack would push it over the edge. But Israeli foreign policy has rarely been very smart.

Iraq, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, the Palestinians, are their close allies. So, yes, they do.

Theres probably more, but those are the most obvious.

Surely couldn't be Iranians, because they are absolutely unified as a people without any internal divisions whatsoever.

They may well be looking at the opening volleys of a revolution. It would make sense for the rebels to want to take away ammo from the military, so they can fight them with equal weapons and massively superior numbers, and that's exactly what just blew up. "Drone attack" doesn't necessarily mean military stuff, anyone can grab the sort of drone you'd shoot a YouTube video with, equip it with thermite or any number of easy to make explosives that are about the weight of said camera, and well, it's ammo, If you blow up a tiny piece of an ammo dump, you're cratering the whole thing.

Pre-revolutionary Iran was a much better place for nearly everyone, except religious fanatics.

So far as I can see, while their protests are wide spread, they lack the type of coordination and leadership for something of this scale.

Best hope is this gives a boost to the unrest rather than redirecting it toward another enemy.

If the country that was bragging about providing drones to Russia is suddenly "under attack by drones", you can bet that it's less an "attack" and more "our shiat's blowing up, yo"

Or.. and hear me out for a second... your own people are getting sick of your government's crap, and being accustomed to violent solutions used by their government and its support of global terrorism over the past few decades, think using the same tactics in rebellion is justified.

...also they might be getting help from the agitation division of the CIA and some pissed off Ukrainians over the whole "supplying Russia with drones to kill/terrorize Ukrainian civilians" crap.

I'm not a scholar or anything, but it seems like "Shi'a" is the preferred version these days. Maybe the various style guides could confirm or deny that, but I'm too lazy to look right now.

In the late 70s it was always the filter-triggering version, so whenever I see it spelled that way I think to myself "hello, fellow old person"

I duuno. Israel usually limits its strikes to Iran's nuclear programs, none of these seem to be related to that.
