They're doing what they did to George W. Bush, who they worshipped about as hard as they did Trump: Pretend he never existed and they never cared for him.

Issues is that Trump's not going away. He's not spending his time painting Pomeranians and nuzzling Michelle Obama. This is a bit awkward; we'll see how they manage.

He must be losing his infamous political instincts if this is the line of attack he's taking. Trump's advantage over DeSantis is that the maggots are still suspicious of his nutjob bonafides. That's why DeSantis has been leaning so hard on the culture war issues and pretending to be an antivaxxer. Trump is just playing into his strategy here.

Trump said DeSantis, who has been openly skeptical about government efforts to vaccinate people against the virus, "promoted the vaccine as much as anyone." I think Trump will lose the nomination and split the party, if only to keep out of legal jeopardy. He will probably draw "only" 10% of the party or so, but that will be enough to crush the actual republican nominee and maybe take down a swathe of republican congressional seats.

A key difference between the 2020 and 2024 election would be while there were many people who voted "Not Trump" but otherwise straight R, Trump will actively pass out the Haterade on establishment republicans resulting in that 10% not voting for republicans at all.

For months Trump has been tucked away at his resort in Palm Beach, where he has hosted parties, sent out missives on his social media site Truth Social, played golf, and plotted out his next steps.

I'm guessing it was pretty light on that last point.
Also, eating hamburders, watching TV and telling Jared to get Ivanka back here.

I think most Republicans figured that people will see the vaccines as a way to free them from the masks and lockdowns. So they initially supported vaccinations. I guess the underestimated how much their conspiracy thinking would take root and how it would naturally apply to vaccines.

And yeah, DeSantis time in the provaccine camp was indeed short. The vaccine came out in late 2021. By February 2022 DeSantis was appointing an antivaxxer as Surgeon General.

I'm not arguing that. I already have had one booster on top of the two original shots, and I have an appointment for a second booster next month. I'm just describing DeSantis's political calculations.

Nothing is sadder than someone trying to start shiat only for everybody to ignore them outright.

I think DeSantis is spending more time on figuring out how to destroy Trump before 2024 so he's out of the game.  Wouldn't shock me if suddenly the GOP finds something on Trump and uses it to impeach him for a third time to block him from running.  Easy, simple, and then nobody has to care.
