Florida is basically just a couple steps away from becoming a real-life version of 'The Running Man'.

And a Republican.
Probably just coincidence.

I had a warrant out for failure to appear many, many years ago.  I knew I missed court, got in touch with my lawyer and he took care of it.  He gave me the paperwork that said it was cleared up and told me whatever I do, have it with me at all times.  2 months later, there's a knock on my door early Sunday morning.  It's the sheriff.  The bureaucracy is so farking slow that the warrant was still active in the system 2 months later.  So yea, I can see how their game show wasn't exactly accurate.

I hate to judge people by their appearance, but just looking at the picture included in the article and I can safely say that that man is a redneck. I really don't want to know what kind of flags are hanging up in his garage.

I would just like to point out that County Sheriff is an elected office where one does not have to be qualified or intelligent, they just have to win an election, and that many of these jokers run unopposed because the folks who are qualified to do their job, don't want to risk losing their position as deputy should they lose the election.

The trick is to have so many warrants from so many different counties that nobody wants to do the paperwork.

I'm afraid Florida, and other states, have lots of Sheriff-Joe Arpaio-wannabes.

We used to live in Brevard County. Our next-door neighbors (lovely people - some of the best neighbors I've ever had) have a son (good kid) who joined the Sheriff's Dept., and I really worry about how he's going to turn out. Articles like this don't help. I want to believe he'll remain one of the "good ones," but I have to assume the culture is incredibly toxic when this is the man at the top.

And Grady Judd is one of the better sheriffs, given that he's trying to handle Polk County. Some of the others in the smaller counties think it's either 1980 or 1880.

It's more of a confirmation of an assumption.

He's a self described "constitutional sheriff" which is basically sovereign citizen insanity for police. I'm sure he's runs an extremely abusive and punitive department.

So the guy who's suing because he wasn't a fugitive and the Sherrif kept targeting him...

"Gay ... was arrested in December 2020 for a misdemeanor charge when he allegedly struck his father who was "in a physical altercation with [his] mother," according to the lawsuit."

Son defends mother against physical abuse at the hands of his father.  Gets arrested and convicted for it.  Sits in jail and WHILE IN JAIL the Sheriff sends the whole community after him.

Sheriff is a saint just trying to do his job. :p

And for that I'm shocked. The most dangerous place in Polk County is between Grady Judd and a camera.

Then again, the second most dangerous place is with a camera between you and a deputy.

Re-arrange these letters to form the name of a well known Brevard County Sheriff;

R-A-C-I-S-T-C-N-U-T-F-A-T

Sheriff's are elected.  Now you know all you need to know about Brevard County.

Imagine if there was a new spin-off (p.i.): Wheel of Corruption!  Wheel full of cops who have been recorded doing dastardly deeds! Everything from killing unarmed men to dealing drugs rather than policing.

But there's one catch! Instead of it being a cop featuring people who aren't actually fugitives, its people featuring cops who should be fugitives. Watch how fast law enforcement tries to shut you down to keep the truth from getting out.

I find that thought.. entertaining.

Its not just the redneck counties

CSB

buddy is in his 40s, in a wheelchair, parks in Miami. Expensive car (new Lexus I think) FWIW.

In a handicapped spot. rolls back to the car, cop is suspicious. Runs him, finds a warrant from NYC ten years ago that had been cancelled within weeks when the police found it was all a false report

(buddy had a dispute, disputee thought he could lie to the cops and make trouble, cops were smart enough to see through it)

So my pal gets arrested. Does over a week until they check the warrant with new york

in Dade county, wheelchair means you go to locked medical, which is pretty much too severely mentally ill to be in genpop

He was terrified the entire time

He sued, got around $80K. He makes somewhere around this per month. He donated it to charity (he didn't tell me which one).

My brother and I grew up in Brevard and would get into trouble quite a bit. I would have to say that the Sheriff's treated me better than the local cops did. But truth be told, I don't trust them that much. Certainly don't trust the local cops at all. Only cops I did fine with were the MPs at Patrick AFB, they'd pull you over on A1A for speeding and then warn you about the local PD past the base who would break your balls just for going 2 mph over the limit.
