(Metro)   When your houseboat sinks because you had it weighted down with so many alcoholic beverages maybe it's time to throw a life preserver ring to the nearest alcoholic recovery center   (metro.co.uk) divider line

I didn't know that Drew had a houseboat.

I was at Lake Havasu and this houseboat had so many people on it they sank it...in about five feet of water, still upright.   So they kept on partying and drinking and I'm thinking "damn there's like three feet of water in your boat and your engines are submerged, but hey, titties and beer!

/Sand Bar, ca. early 1990's.   Don't know if that still goes off today like it once did.

You look at that boat and tell me you would go out on it if not well and truly buzzed.

I mean sure, it was partially submerged and I'm sure people wanted to abandon ship, but they didn't because of the implication

I didn't see shiat

This is one of those load balance problems. If it had remained even, the boat would have remained above water. But once the load shifted at little, more followed until it rolled. It's how ferries and roll-on-roll-off ships capsize.

Thanks, Solar.

Can't believe I'm the first to ask if the beer is okay?

I don't know about that, but I know 30 cases (old school 24 packs) fit in a Ford Pinto. Plus an orange traffic barrel, with flashing light, wedged between the seats and the windshield. Unfortunately, they will not let you drive on an Air Force base in that configuration.

Ford Pintos are dangerous.
I think they made the right call.

But, if I'm the one in trouble...
Why would I throw one to...
Eh, whatever.  Cheers.

If the dude was truly an alcoholic, there would not have been any booze on the boat.

If the boat didn't have enough reserve buoyancy for a case of beer then that boat is not seaworthy.

my guess theft is somehow involved. i don't know if the beer and the boat were stolen separately. it would have to been a really well stocked liquor store.

Argh, that second ad, with the pull handles on a push door. That's something that drives me crazy. The language of doors is pull handles and push bars.

Even just a metal plate that says "PUSH".

There is a distinct level of sadism behind the conscious decision to allow pull-handles on both sides of a one-way-opening door.

FTFA: "Police reportedly smashed one of the windows to ensure nobody was inside."

So they were unable to find the little man in the boat?

Thread over.

Alcohol is lighter than water, so this is impossible.

My god, the article's headline says "cans" of beer?  How many pallets of the stuff are we walking about?

FRFA:  "A box of Carling lager...and bottles of beer."

Uh-huh.

Reading the headline, I expected this to be on 'Lake' Powell, Mead, or Havasu. But it probably wouldn't make the newswires there.
