If I were going to try to break into a military base, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't pick the Marines.

20 years ago I'd have wagered this was a foreign terrorist. Nowadays, my money is on a domestic terrorist whose actions are driven not by religious fervor, but rather social media.

I'm going with a dependapotamus who got dumped after getting caught cheating while the guy was deployed overseas.  They tend to be crazy and believe they are immune to consequences, so attacking a military base isn't out of character.

Happened to me, the GPS routed me through the secret squirrel side of Ft Meade.  They were not happy.

Bring a couple of those 94 color Crayola sets to scatter and you can get away while they fight over the good flavors.

Much better than tire spikes, which just slow a vehicle down.

Suicide by Marine.

I always wondered if the old 60s/70s-vintage pop-up bollard systems worked, but it looks like they all got upgrades after 9/11.

The base I worked at installed round ones that look like bollards when raised. Less lethal, I imagine.
I would love to see a car get half way over before they raised. Then flipped over onto it's roof.

Yeah, went to the airshow down at Luke with my BIL back in the day. There's a red line painted on the tarmac that said something about unauthorized persons crossing the line would be shot.

He confirmed that (obviously not on a public day) it was 100% legit.

Last time I was on an air base, i didn't see any red lines, but there was a very clear distinction in manner from the gate guards and folks running stalls and tours and the no shiat armed guards at secure places.

They were doing dog demos. Honestly wanted to play with the puppers.  It looked fun as hell. Worth a little mauling through the suit.

I used to be up at Ft Detrick, and I'd have to go to Meade sometimes to service their crypto equipment once a month or so. They take security quite seriously on the secure comms side. If you ever feel like farking around on a military installation, that is not the place to fark around.

Other good places not to fark around include nuke silos and fighter/bomber wing flightlines.

I'd feel a lot better with Marines "policing" our streets right now. Those folks are bound by the UCMJ and have Rules of Engagement. Cops don't.
