I'm working on the AT-AT this weekend, as well as tinkering with a steam locomotive for my new train collection.

The only steam "sets" you can get for a reasonable price at the moment are the set from the Lone Ranger movie, and the two Hogwarts Expresses.  Not only do both properties scream problematic, none of them were powered; I'm taking a power unit from the Passenger Express set and trying to cram it into the engine tender.

/As soon as my next batch of parts come in, I'm breaking both sets down to build the Southern Railway No. 1401 that you see in the Smithsonian.

The "Lego Step" is actually an instinctual trait, sometimes learned before Legos are even introduced to the environment. Few become masters of this trait.

"Ok, looks like you're not on board for the Bag O'Glass. Next we have what we're calling Jacks."
"Those look like... are those caltrops?"
"WITH!!! A rubber ball. You bounce the ball, you pick up the jacks."
"What kind of fun could that be?"
"Builds character. Teaches kids to clean their rooms. Once little Jimmy steps on a caltro-- jack-- in the middle of the night and looses a toe to complications of infection and tetanus, he'll clean his goddamn room."

That's probably not that bad, your weight probably gets distributed with so many legos.  It's like how you can sleep on a bed of nails but if you step on a single one, it's going right through your foot.

I didn't have Legos growing up. When the spouse and I were dating, he was horrified to learn this. We started buying castles to do together. Since then, we have accumulated many, many bricks. In the midst of it all, I even have a couple of sealed boxes that can be considered to be treasures in their own right.

The flower table than something from the florist.:) Next we are setting up a spot some of the modular buildings.

Love the combo of engineering art that Legos are.

This. Whereas, whilst walking to the bathroom, in the middle of the night, stepping on a random Devil's Brick, the piercing pain racing from the soft sole of my foot to the top of my head remains very, very clear these many years later. And yes when I was a kid, I stepped on a nail which went through my foot-not as painful.

I managed to assemble my Black Panther[TM] mech today. That's my current skill level. Managed not to step on any parts, though.

Hooray Lego!

Yep, the flower sets are a neat gift for someone who's allergic to the real thing.

/currently doing the Star Wars Cantina set
//a wretched hive of fun and minifigs

Stepping on Legos is an exaggerated misfortune. The worst thing that can happen to an adult's foot is falling asleep.

And then waking up next to Quentin Tarantino in the morning.

If you're old enough to have played jacks, you're old enough to remember Lego wheels like this:

FWIW, Lego didn't actually invent the whole interlocking plastic brick thing.

It was literally a toy sample that came along with the first plastic injection molding machine that they purchased, they just ran with it, made some minor tweaks and increased the variety of bricks as time went on.
