That might look too unmanly, or unpresidential for his ego.  If he does ever testify, I'd bet that he'd probably throw them all under the bus, like all the others.  Claim, "well, it's their fault that they misinterpreted what I said.  I never said to go attack the Capitol.  Kill a cop."

This is a criminal trial.  He can testify he was just saying things and didn't think people would listen.  Do some sort of wonky face tweet later to keep the base and it's over really.  Another legal hurdle handled.  The interesting part is if he seems fully coherent or as dementia afflicted as I hope.

Any person willfully neglecting or refusing obedience to such subpoena, or neglecting or refusing to appear and testify when subpoenaed, his fees having been paid if demanded, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, for which he shall be punished by indictment in the district court of the United States or in the district courts of the Territories exercising the jurisdiction of district courts of the United States. The punishment for such offense, upon conviction, shall be a fine of not more than $200, or imprisonment not to exceed ninety days, or both, at the discretion of the court: Provided, That if such witness has been prevented from obeying such subpoena without fault upon his part he shall not be punished under the provisions of this section.

Translation: TFG would never show up.  Plus his fees would be a few gazillion dollars.

He abandoned them behind after sending them into battle... maybe now that consequences are looming and they know they're almost certainly doomed, they want to drag him down with them as punishment for his betrayal.
