I chuckled.

"The issue is not the vending machines themselves but what they may lead to..."

How many times have those words been said but with a different subject?

Pinball machines
Rap music
Long hair
Sagging pants
Gays
Welfare

And so on.

Whale meat. Now there's an industry that's sure to avoid controversy..

Huh. I wonder what that faint glow of pitchforks and torches on the horizon is for?

Never had Whale. Can you even get it in the US? I'd try it but I'd probably feel bad about it.

I'm always so confused. Japan is more or less our best friend in Asia outside of maybe south Korea. But whales is the one farking they put their foot down on.

I'd think this would be pretty easy for the whale conservationists.  Just keep unplugging the machines and/or knocking them over/damaging them until they realize it's too much trouble to keep them going.

/please don't kill the whales, thanks

Why not?  People eat deer, pigs, sheep, cows, and all sorts of large herbivores.  There is absolutely no more issue with hunting and eating many species of whale.

whales mourn their dead, like elephants do. a mother whale will tote around a dead calf for days, the entire group dynamic will be altered. they are highly intelligent.

eating whales and dolphins is like eating people.

you can think it's "just" a large animal -because whales are NOT herbivores, if this somehow matters- but you're wrong bud

Some do, some don't.  Cetacea is a pretty big group of animals ranging from very smart to about the intelligence of cows.  Minke whales which are what is hunted are about as smart as pigs, so pretty smart but still a food animal.  You shouldn't talk about something you don't know much about with such confidence.

also you named domestic animals, other than deer, things that wouldn't even exist without human selective breeding. whales and dolphins are NOTHING like this. they exist without our intervention in their gene pool and they are better off that way.

hunting whales for food is more like hunting lions for the meat. a non-domestic apex predator (that isn't even extra tasty to humans) and lives in complex and dynamic family groups. yeah let's KILL that......

get a grip

you're the second farker to tell me eating minke whales is fine and dandy (do you also live in northern norway?).

i disagree. but i'm extremely confident they are not domesticated herbivores.....

maybe YOU should know what you are talking about before you make analogies.

You don't know what you are talking about, so you should stop.  Minke whales are not apex predators, they eat krill and fish (mostly), and are also solitary once mature.  I don't see how whether they are domesticated or not is particularly relevant.

The meat also tastes just fine.  Not my favorite as it is very lean, but that can be mitigated which is why I poach it in butter.  The main issue is that it is rather expensive and for the money I prefer other things, but I will pick it up on sale since then it is usually worth it.

you know i craved out an exemption for SUBSISTENCE hunting in my original comment, yeah?

no one else should be eating whale. period.

not even dumb, lonely little minke baleen whales......you say they are as smart as a pig or cow? fine. EAT a pig or cow instead, that's why pigs and cows currently exist. not so for the whales.

Most hunters aren't subsistence hunters.

Also, most fish aren't domesticated, and yet fishing exists.

What the farking strawman is this.

Last I checked most hunters I know supplement their diet with game not strawman it and hunt whale for profit. Also not a fish or fished for. Whales are pretty farking intentional.most hunters I know will either slide ya some portion for a little weed, 20 bucks or for a return on your cooking.

Last I checked I wasn't out on the ocean with a farking Bow hunting Moby dick you slackjawed chuckle fark of fallacy

if the makah or faroanese take a sustainable number of whales, fine. in fact, the less fuss we make about them the quicker the practice will decline. best food review show was in the faroe islands recently. whaling was dying out, but when foreigners showed up and started to make demands and insult the locals it became a matter of local pride and viking stubbornness which set the cause of stopping whaling there back decades.

the japanese whaling industry was created post ww2, had nothing to do with ancient tradition, was never an important part of local diets, and had to be encouraged with subsidies. there is no reason for it except for corporate profits.
