You know who abuses kids more often than teachers? Their own parents. There's a reason that teachers are taught to identify signs of abuse, at every level of public school. It's not just to spot bullying, or abuse by colleagues, but more often than not, to spot kids and young adults who are getting abuse at home.

If we listened to these sorts of parents, kids would be locked into a cycle of violence and abuse, and the State tends to think that isn't the best way to deal with the issue. Parents' have a certain degree of latitude, but it ends when the safety and health of the student is in jeopardy. Trying to limit curriculum based on what the parents think a kid should know goes back a ways. Like teaching daughters how to read. Or limit science classes because the too much science might mean that God wasn't mentioned sixteen times when talking about the forces at the moment that the universe began. It all boils down to wanting to limit their children, because they fear that they can't control those kids lives and limit their opportunities. It is a form of abuse. And we have set precedent over and over again, that abuse at home isn't tolerated, and we train our teachers, and they have a very real responsibility to report such abuse to the State. And when teachers fail in this, because of pressure from their own Administration, city officials, or other organizations, that doesn't free them of that legal responsibility.

Teach your kids what you want at home. But in schools, there is a set curriculum for a reason. You don't get to choose what that is. Take them out of the system if you REALLY feel that is right thing to do to preserve your 'values' but ignorance isn't a value, it's just a damn weight around your kids' necks.

She ain't wrong. Primary school's purpose is to give children a basic foundation of knowledge which they are able to build off of and the capability to function within societal norms. Nothing about public education is supposed to be religious or otherwise in control by one group of angry, vocal shiat birds. If you want that, send them to church school. There is no shortage of those.

and the Internet

and it has gotten worse because these dumbfarks were promised that Jesus was coming back around 20 years ago, but only if all the heathens were destroyed or subjugated. People who believe in fairy tales don't have the capacity to understand neither of those things are going to happen but they WANT it to and they are they kind of people who have always gotten what they want for various reasons and I don't feel like writing an essay today. I mean, I'm sure I will at some point, just not at the moment.

The End Times is a self-fulfilling prophecy because many people who believe they are Christians have no idea what Jesus really is, and some people are making money off them and don't want them to find out what he really is.

We dragged literal little old ladies to jail for running satanic sex rings out of daycares. On what came out as obviously coaxed statements from 3-4 year olds. We have buried women alive to prove they were satanic witches. We have ostracized, imprisoned and killed for 2+ centuries. We have always. Always. Been this way. . Nothing is worse. I just think we can't hide from it anymore. We simply are murderous primates forever running from our fears.

It very much is actually because whatever earned them that reputation happened BEFORE you got there and wanted to change everything.

So apparently you don't actually trust the common judgement but used it to base your choice about where to reside, which is a HUGE life decision.  So yeah, that's laughable.

They apparently believe "the best schools" means ones with no minorities, praising Jesus each day with forced Christian prayer in homeroom, and teaching kids that disparaging anyone who is "weird" and/or has less money than your parents is morally required.

Look, when they went and "decided" to accidentally have kids, they were expecting tiny servants like TERF Queen wrote about in her wizard books, little house gremlins that pick up crumbs, wear rags, never sass back and do what they're told.
They didn't expect to have to raise them themselves and educating them at home so they learn *exactly* what the parents want is effort, that's the opposite of getting to be more lazy by deligating tasks to house gremlins.
So like, do what is demanded because they need to get back to figuring out who they need to hate from the TalkBox.

We've got this happening in our district as well. COVID and the MAGA shiat over masking really led to an ascendancy of bullshiat at the school board level, now we are losing good people to their claptrap.

"Almost" is a strong word there, given they lack the self-awareness to realize if they think one thing and the highly reputable school thinks another, it's probably not the school which needs to change.

I took the grandpuppy for a doctor visit when he had a pretty bad flu, and the doctors assistant, kind of sheepishly, asked him if he felt safe at home. She then apologized to me for asking him that.

I told her there's nothing to apologize for; it was a good question to ask kids, statistically speaking. I also gave her a note that in the future, she should consider asking the child outside of earshot of family members.  She seemed kind of shocked by that.

I got the distinct feeling she's told to ask that by the clinic, but didn't really get why it's an important thing to ask.

So "Mom for Liberty" got an anal wart over the fact that the school keeps confidential information about student gender identity, to provide them a safe space to talk about it. Even though statistically, it is highly, highly unlikely her own kid is Trans. And so she pulled her kid out of school for a problem that almost certainly has no effect on her child, while pulling the kid out of school will condemn the kid to a lifetime of being behind his peers.

Good jerb, "Mom." You are the republican ideal.

I would not have said that.  The correct answer is that public schools are supposed to teach kids what they need to be successful members of society.  You can see that the answer is still the same (or almost the same), but emphasizes the good of the student, rather than the good of the community.**  That matters.  Framing and wording matters when you're engaging in public discourse.

**Note: Still not what these parents want, because they're bad parents.

Armageddon was supposed to happen the lifetime of Jesus' followers, so unless Jesus lied... it already happened, about 1900 years ago.

It apparently failed miserably.  It was supposed to result in a massive culling of the population (though God already promised to stop doing that kind of thing after the Flood, right?) and then the survivors would get around to turning Earth into a new Paradise.

One mom in Linn County told "Fox & Friends First" she pulled her children out of the public school system in Fall 2022 to homeschool.

Geralyn Jones, the chair of a Moms for Liberty chapter in Iowa, said that she removed her children because of a transgender policy that allows students to choose which locker rooms and bathrooms to use.

Saying "the best public school in Iowa" is like saying "the best Motel 6 in Mississippi" or "the least racist police department in Georgia".

The best in Iowa is probably on par with an okay school in Massachusetts or New Jersey.
