Just not gaining traction like they wanted. Usually the media fawn over their efforts and question the Dems' not wanting to play ball. Guess that story's not working anymore.

His suffering feeds the woke hive mind of the communists.  Can Quevin find his inner free market hero strength as a rugged individual in a sea of far left sheeple?
Thankfully Quevin has seized onto his power with an iron fist, opening himself up to a no-confidence vote by any single house party member, and killed the proxy vote forcing him to intermittently lead a democrat majority.  He's that good.
No doubt the same moral and spiritual compass that led him to mother Ginny will give him the true American grit to shut down the government and halt entitlements to workers that steal from job creators and hard working rigged wealthy folks just like them.
Then once the SCOTUS enables state legislators to end federal election voting and directly appoint congress and POTUS this nation will truly be great again!

fark GQP voters for green lighting these farking idiots.

YOU, cousin-humping, mouth-breathing idiots don't get that throwing Jewish Space Laser lady front and center ain't the way to 'get things done'.  That Jellospine MilqueToast ain't gonna lead the charge to freedome from tyranny because he has caribo barbie and Lockeroom Gym threatening to take their toys and go and he doesn't have the balls to tell them to pound sand.

THIS is what we are stuck with because of every. single. GQP. Voter.

So to farking hell with every person who voted for these idiots and stuck us with more rampant stupidity that will keep us locked in getting nothing done.

It kinda makes sense for the GQP to put this off for now, not that they're usually particularly open to doing anything sensible when there's a mad option also available.

The huge political stories of the past few weeks have been about GQP dysfunction in the House. The insanity they went through to get Qevin up as speaker, the neverending George Santos scandals, the biatching from the sidelines by Trump, it's exhausting and they're ill-disciplined at the best of times. Any debt ceiling bullshiat now would just look like more incoherent dysfunction rather than "political strategy".

The big Qevin Qestion is whether he can ever recover his team in the House as a united force, and if he can't then can anyone? I sure hope the answer to that one is a big fat NO but time will tell.

And Quvin doesn't seem to get that horse left the barn - good luck getting it back.

He already showed he is not remotely capable of 'leading' - Jesus - he was steamrolled before  he even sat in the chair!

This makes his ability to unify damned near non-existent:  The playbook is stomp your feet and hold your breath and that's what Qevin has to vield to.  If literally the dumbest among them, Clubfoot HotoilTreatmentMakover figured that out - Kevin's tenure is dead in the water from a true, unifying 'leadership' perspective.

And....those r's in blue/purple districts are gonna get a lot more 'which way is the wind blowing' the closer 2024 gets if they wanna keep those seats:  Don't think they won't swing with the D's if their districts are showing displeasure with how Qevin runs the House....

And there is the very real, albeit increasingly distant, possibility certain House members will get indicted - then shiat is gonna get real interesting.

I mean - there is at least what - a half a dozen to 10 who could, still, legitimately be in hard core indictment territory this year.  May need to step down in a US vs. DNC Pipe Bomber, there, Madge, and concentrate on defense there, girlie.  Gaetz....Hmmmm.....something is brewing there.

Indictments could literally lean the balance - and maybe Qevin knows that - I think there is gonna be something eventually happening - particularly with all the foot soldiers falling lately.

Stands to reason we are now at the next circle - inner planners, and I strongly suspect some are sitting House members.

Dems may end up with a majority just due to indictments taking out the MAGAs.

/I may have also wake and baked....
//I still think there will be something hitting on that front - change my mind!  Whether it's enough to swing numbers in the thin margin that exists will be the bigger question.

Until there's a standard other than "wait 2 years and hope they get voted out by their district" it will always be like this.  The standard for lying your way into power then lying through sessions, hearings and meetings should be removal from committees and eventually office.
This will never happen and their voters like the lies so your government will never be correct.

For a little while I was getting stressed out that "George Santos" might get away with being the first explicit, admitted fraud in Congress, but the DOJ has just signaled that it's investigating him by telling the FEC to back off temporarily:

What do you mean by "get away with?"

Parts of his fraud may be criminal and that's what the FBI would be looking at, but make no mistake, he got away with lying his way into a House seat and he's not going anywhere for two years. And he'll probably get reelected.

BeatrixK:

Here's my thing about the blow up and one vote removal. Is "let them". Let them take the next year and a half voting to elect a leader that a minority sufficiently view as deferential to Trump enough to deserve the speaker position. Let them vote three times a day, until the poor woman's voice is sore. Because they can't even agree on simple qualifications for who speaks for the party in the house. It's beautiful.

2023-01-28 7:21:57 AM
How much do you want to bet that almost no one in the Republican party, voters or politicians, even know what the debt ceiling is.  They likely don't know the definition of the term, and they certainly don't know the value.

But boy, are they going to talk about it, and slam their fists on the desk!

This is the sort of thing that is going to get fixed and hammered out by the smart people in the room.  Then the others will be told how to vote.  The rest of this is all for show.

soopey: Can we get a different source?  That website is mobile phone cancer. I scrolled down for about 7 screen lengths and only managed to find the headline buried between 400 ads before I gave up.

TFA cites a Bloomberg article, which itself is walled off. And just about every other news site referencing that article is a useless financial/stock site.

It's sad that phone browsers take the brunt of ad abuse. You'd think someone would have invented an ad block for them by now, but maybe the phone OS monopolies won't allow it.

Anyway, TFA: "House Republican leaders are considering proposing a short-term extension of the federal debt ceiling to delay the risk of a default until Sept. 30", and Dem leadership is saying this is an issue they won't capitulate on (because defaulting the federal government would be really bad).

Unfortunately, if any of those assholes are actually indicted then I'm sure they'll get bail so it won't functionally change anything. However, it would be hilarious if, after getting rid of remote voting by proxy, McCarthy desperately tries to get it back because several of his fellow idiots are in jail.

The Republican Party of the past would present some sort of symbolic legislation like an unrealistic balanced budget or some sort of balanced budget amendment that would never be enacted, but was effective political theater in the court of public opinion. These fools the GOP have now are too dysfunctional, incompetent, and/or too intellectually lazy to even pretend to govern like in the past.

The House GOP are unable to meet the minimum credibility needed for even the "report both sides with equal credibility" mainstream media entities like CNN or Slate to spin into a credible Republican counterpoint. The Republicans demanding cuts without specifying cuts, especially after saying deficits did not matter the last time they controlled government, is ringing hollow with everyone except those in the right-wing bubble. The House GOP are not coming across as being a needed counterbalance to Democratic power as the Constitution intended, but rather as a bunch of haters hating out of pure spite.

This is what happens when those stupid assholes from high school get in power.  They don't understand, really how it works.  They dress up, they mouth the platitudes, they try the correct words, they rile up the rubes...but they don't understand how it works.  As long as they don't do, or try, to change anything the system hums along.  The people before them, the people who understood, set up the system - a robust system.

These clowns?  They don't understand why they can't have whiskey (and only whiskey) for breakfast every day. Why you have to pay your taxes every year. Why you have to clean the bathroom. Sure, you can get away with it for a day, for a week, a month.  But it catches up with you, and there you are - upside in the drainage ditch along the interstate at 7 am wondering what the hell happened, where it all went wrong.

/Republicans, clip-on tie wearers, American flag lapel pin wearers, people who think a pickup is the choice as a daily suburban commuter, incandescent bulb lovers, climate change deniers, flat taxers, the Galt boys.

Their scheme collapsed quicker than I had hoped. When they were recently begging for dems to choose the budget cuts, that seemed desperate but I still thought they would at least get out of January before imploding.

So glad to be wrong!

It's not a Blink.  They are going to gut the budget with the debit celling as leverage. Well... And they feel the political winds blowing against them.

This is really not a good thing. It sets them up to reframe the debate to make them look more sensible. Since their position is to never raise taxes and slash all federal spending except for guns, that's not great.
