Is it the guy that YouTube recommended to everyone this week?

Yes, until you do a single trick and it's bent completely out of shape because it's, you know, metal; a feature he highlights in the linked video. It can be hard to accept, but there are a few parts of the human experience that have evolved since the 40s.

If you can't do it with a metal slinky, nature neve rintended for it to be done!!

I was ready to make that kind of comment until I watched the video. I grew up with metal slinkies and vaguely remember the new plastic ones my younger cousins got not being that good, i.e. not going down stairs as well. It could be that the stairs were slightly different at my cousin's place (I think the house was build by their granddad) or that the kind of plastic used got better with time.

In any case, I'm a convert to the  "new" plastic slinkys now. It might be something I'd buy for my godson's brand new daughter when she's a little bit older.

At night you could place the metal slinkies around your home like razor wire and keep burglars at bay. Try that with plastic slinkies and you'll wake up one morning to find all your Christmas presents have been stolen.

Yep. My 9-year-old had some of the generic plastic gumball machine mini slinkies as fidgets. He saw a metal name brand one at Target and asked for it. I warned him. He didn't believe me. It lasted less than three days before it was bent beyond usability.

I had a full-size plastic one back in the 80s, and it lasted years. It didn't work nearly as well on stairs, but it would occasionally make it down the entire flight.
