Pop quiz: which automobile maker would have simply sent out an OTA software update and never had anyone but those previously impacted know about it?

Ford Sync switched to Blackberry QNX back in 2014, so for once Microsoft isn't to blame.

Windows 7 and 8 Mobile was awesome. Just didn't have any apps.

Had so many features Apple is only now getting around implementing, like the live weather and alwayus on info screen:

Was called a "phablet" back in the day, because it was so huuuuuuge! You know, like the size of the base iPhone these days.

I guess that's better than the 634K SUVs they recalled last year due to fuel leaks..

Article simply says it's caused by a "faulty video output".

May be a hardware issue which tends to be harder to fix with an OTA update.

Jeep had a recall like this. OTA update to install because some backup cameras would remain on the screen while the vehicle was going forward, causing distraction.

Jeep mailed notices, though.

Back in my day we had mirrors on our windscreens and had to learn to twist out whole torso to back up.

Off my lawn youngins.

They still have those... and even so I never used the inside mirror for backing up, only the outside ones.

I would pay extra for that feature.

If your outside mirrors are adjusted properly you would never be able to see anything directly behind your vehicle.

TFA says firmware updates are required for a fix. GPIO pins exist, JTAG and eSPI protocols are not hard to implement, especially when compared to the design complexity of 4G radios required for any sort of OTA updates.

Sideview mirrors are for a SIDE VIEW of what can be approaching you from behind. If you properly adjust your mirrors, the sideviews will never show what is directly behind your vehicle.

Sounds like you don't know how car mirrors are supposed to be set?
