Canada has made some important advances in fission technology and is the world leader in producing nuclear isotopes for medicine and research.  And they're not farked by the US NRC so can build experimental designs.

I see the second map was drawn on a summer long weekend. Else the division would be way further south.

If I recall the CANDU design runs on natural (un-enriched) uranium.  That probably limited its' adoption.

Great. The last thing we need are mutant, three armed Leafs fans in search of two-fours of Molsons (Oh, and brains, too).

You wouldn't use CANDU reactors to produce most medical isotopes (at least not at a large scale). They are optimized for efficient power production and constantly extracting isotopes is not feasible without interfering with that. For large scale isotope production you use research reactions. Canada used the NRU in Chalk River to produce them.

As far as I am aware Canada no longer has a leading position in medical isotopes since the NRU was shut down in 2018. Various facilities are still key suppliers of specific isotopes, but not nearly on the scale the NRU was.
