I haven't watched any of the Harry and Meghan shows, interviews or anything, despite my wife's pleadings. I have no ill feeling towards them; I just really don't care at all.

At the same time, I think it's pretty cool that being an American is more desirable than being a royal in the UK. We mess up a LOT in the US, but we must be doing okay at some things.

Anyway, hope Cumming is happy, good for him.

I think it's safe to assume that any title with the word "empire" in it carries negative political baggage.

There are no explicit privileges to the honor. It was granted to him for work he was already doing in providing representation for the LBGTQ+ community and for using his celebratory platform to call for legal rights that in some instances have since been granted in the US.

His message explains that the death of QE caused him to take another look at the OBE, as it explicitly references the British empire, and to reconsider the negative impact of that empire. With that perspective, he no longer considers it an honor, and won't be recognizing it.

So again, he is using his platform to call out BS. Seems like pretty consistent behavior from him.

It also seems like using it for better purposes than the majority of people who were honored.

I always wonder if those who cry and gnash their teeth over virtue signaling wouldn't benefit by hanging out with more virtuous people.

Performative gestures can be annoying. Particularly using cliched language in an shallow attempt to diminish admirable behavior.
