He always was, subby.

Okay maybe not quite a sex symbol, but still a pretty freaking great character.

Still arguably one of the best theme songs ever, or at least the earliest pop use of synthesizer.

Murder By Death is such a great movie.

There was Rockford, Columbo and Kojak.   Mannix had fans too, but he was not so much a detective as a beat the truth out of you guy.  No love for poor Cannon, I guess.

I was born in 1971, so my memories of Columbo and other shows of that era are vague.

I remember Starsky & Hutch, and when they talked about junkies, and there were marks on their arms, I actually thought it was a communicable disease, like chicken pox or measles.

Glass eye. Peter Falk had cancer in that eye (retinoblastoma), and had a glass eye since he was three and that eye had to be removed.

Would you care to discuss Sylvester Stallone's slurred speech cased by nerve damage in his cheeck from the forceps used in his delivery, next?

I decided to dive back into Columbo and made a critical mistake. Wasn't going to start from the beginning. Too many seasons, too many episodes. So I picked one with a notable guest star. Can you guess which star may have been a mistake to watch?

That's right, William Tiberius Shatner. Dude was chewing up scene after scene and I couldn't take it any more. Had to bail out. Couldn't even finish the first episode. Don't make the same mistake I did. Save the Shatner episode for last. He's absolutely horrible.

Just once I'd have loved to see Columbo tie the murderer to a chair and beat the crap out of him until he confessed.

/And as others have said, The Cheap Detective and Murder By Death are must sees.

I know one he plays a TV detective, so his scenery chewing absolutely fits the character. I have no problem watching his episodes.

It is weird how I kinda miss regular TV programming for the 90's. It was always much more fun on the weekends anyhow.

4 years 5 years back I was living out nowhere. Didn't want to pay for satellite so we just used over the air antenna. Is like going through a time war. Crafting shows reruns of Chips, Knight Rider, M*A*S*H, 80's action movies, 60's Batman, and the shocker daily airings MST3K

Just did a re-watch on Peacock. It's fantastic.
The first few seasons are the best, there are some duds in the later seasons.

The first episode is directed by Steven Spielberg!

I don't know about today, but go back 20+ years and Columbo was the style icon for auditors, field inspectors, anyone whose job was to sift the truth out of stuff provided by someone motivated to disguise it. Plain, practical, rumpled.

To the point the business people were advised not to wear the best suit or the luxury watch when meeting with them, so as not to resemble a Columbo villain.

I remember when she was playing Captain Janeway, she'd state in interviews 'I am NOT a beautiful woman.'  But I also remember Voyager's writers seemed to look for excuses to get her as naked as broadcast TV would allow.

By Boomer cop do they mean watched by Boomers? He was born nearly 100 years ago, my parents born in the 30s loved him, so I did, too. (Am also not a boomer.)

Anyway, this thread is old, but none of you posted this. :-(

He never had a wife. He always used fake family members in conversations with his suspects to make him more relatable and catch them relaxed a bit.

Cozy TV has been doing a day of "Columbo & Friends" each weekend with Columbo, McCloud, McMillan & Wife, Bancek, and Quincy.

Yeah, Columbo is pretty great, but Banacek is downright awesome.  He doesn't need to appear bumbling to throw people off, he just goes in as a cocky motherfarker and gets shiat done.

Anyone over 25 = Boomers.

Anyone under 25 = people who mock Boomers while listening to Kate Bush, Rick Astley, or sampling Tom Tom Club or sounding like a-ha.

Now let them get back to watching Columbo or hearing Dua Lipa sing with Elton John.
