Restless Lip Syndrome: We have had some rain the last day or so. This can make things gloomy but it can also mean that we can have cool sunsets. Last night I sent up the drone to see how it was going to turn out. I was not disappointed.

The weather has been consistently crappy the last month and a half. We've only had one stretch of snow which was the week or so before Christmas. The rest of the time, it's been dreary rain.

That was pretty cool. It was weird how at about 3:15 in the video a mass of black sand or dirt pretty quickly heaves out of the ground in front of collapsing hillside. Must have gotten squeezed out by the weight of the other soil.

Kid got his W2 from work today, his first "real" job. I noticed they didn't withhold any state taxes, and it looks as if he (or someone helping him when he started) told payroll he was exempt from state withholding. Oops.

That's my understanding. As the larger chunks start falling down, they're sinking right into the looser sand and pushing it up.

That's my understanding. As the larger chunks start falling down, they're sinking right into the looser sand and pushing it up.


I'm pretty sure the larger chunks falling down are just peanuts compared to the much larger and very slowly slumping mass of cliff which is what pushes up the dark sand at the end.

Kid got his W2 from work today, his first "real" job. I noticed they didn't withhold any state taxes, and it looks as if he (or someone helping him when he started) told payroll he was exempt from state withholding. Oops.


When Kid was in middle school he had a summer job doing clerical stuff at my office.  When it was time for his first paycheck, the owner called him into the conference room and had a little ceremony for presenting the check and telling Kid how glad he was was Kid came to work here, and now that he was a working person he was going to be participating in contributing taxes to support the things that help our society function, etc. etc. etc.  Then he handed Kid the check and it was for $1.89 or something like that, with taxes taken out for fed, state, WC, Medicare, Social Security, part-time employee tax, under 18 tax, this tax, that tax, all these other taxes...  Kid looked at it, then looked up...said "Um...thanks."

Then we all had a good laugh and he gave Kid his real paycheck.  Kid kept the other one, though, and cashed it.

It's so awesome we make tax things, like filling out W-2 forms and filing taxes, so easy to understand, especially for first timers.
