Isn't this the point of defunding the police? Here is a guy that has demonstrated that he isn't stable. Now the state and local government has to spend bunches of money in needless court proceedings and building repairs when this could have been handled with social workers and mental health programs. The costs are equal or lower with the latter.
But that's socialism, probably communism too. That's what I've been told...

Seriously, if we had state medicine it would have been much easier for an officer to get this person diagnosed

Also, didn't all the PDs put up bollards after 9-11 so this sort of thing couldn't happen?

Chacon eventually drove to the Grand Junction Police Department. He told investigators he "did not want to be killed, so he chose to drive into the lobby," according to court documents.
"As Nathan told me (the investigator) this, he advised he knew it was dumb but he knew what he needed to do in order to be heard," the affidavit reads.

Chacon was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility for attempted murder in the first degree, attempted assault in the first degree, attempted vehicular homicide - reckless driving, attempted vehicular assault, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.

No one was injured in the crash.

Based on his testimony, there was no intent to murder or assault anyone. By his own admission he drove into the lobby to get attention.

Just a bunch of trumped up charges by the useless cops.

Floki: Based on his testimony, there was no intent to murder or assault anyone.

FTA: "The truck crashed through the front door of the lobby and came to rest after it collided with a retaining wall that divides employees from the public lobby,"

If there were employees on the other side of that wall, the only thing that kept him from killing them was the wall.

They'll probably end up charging him with lesser stuff than the attempted murder though. The cops just wanted a charge with a high bond so they could keep him locked up until he saw a judge and probably get a bond with conditions.

Umm good citation, but this could have been much worse and this person's story is littered with warning signs of future violent behavior and but for government inability to handle such incidents without meathead violence government itself found itself the victim, clearly there is a lesson here

Same reason they don't cover birth control, the investors want profits now! Investments are what they make when they get raises not help the community at large.

As others have mentioned, America has (and has always had) a serious mental illness problem.

Everybody over the age of 10 needs therapy. But most aren't gonna get it.

I don't know what they call the policy, or how it's implemented, but cops in Austin definitely have a system to ignore people who call more than once in a blue moon. New in town? Never called before? Cops will show up 5 mins after you call.

Around the 20th time you report that your neighbors from hell are shooting at your house, lighting bonfires next to your fence, trespassing, having another big party with 22 live bands playing well past curfew, climbing up the cell tower and throwing firecrackers on your roof; well, the cops won't ever show up! They won't even call you back when the dispatcher gives the option.

So remember ass1i1s, if your neighbor calls the cops on you, just double down and keep doing your bullshiat. Cops will practically print you a license. Also, "No Trespassing" signs are just decorative! Cops say they can't do a thing unless they see the crime with their own eyes, and the trespasser has to admit that he's been warned not to come on the property in the past.
