Boy, when it comes time to leave the parking space, I would love to see someone swing their rear-end out into  oncoming traffic like that on Santa Monica Blvd. at 3pm on a Wednesday.

The LULs would be EPIC.

If you can't figure out parallel parking you shouldn't be allowed to drive!

Who is parking?  People shouldn't own cars.  At least not the underchuds.  Overmasters for sure.  But the rest of society should live in the pods and eat the bugs. You will own nothing and be happy. Your pod will be within walking distance of your assigned work zone.  And if you need to travel to accomplish the task assigned to you, mass transit will be provided.

Parallel parking problem solved.

Pritty sure that was before power steering. Ever try to parallel park without it? Super fun.

I haven't actually parallel parked since I took my driving test in the late 1990s. It just isn't relevant where I live.

Cars are already good enough.
We don't need better cars, we need fewer cars, and less dependence on them.
F**k cars.

I remember seeing that video eons ago. Neat concept, but yeah also likely dangerous in a lot of scenarios.

Also the tires had little grip, making pivoting easier.

Also there was no dead power steering pump in the system to impede operation.

I learned how to parallel park in a 1967 Chevrolet Impala Station Wagon with no power steering. It was part of the driving exam too. I passed the first time.

You're right about manual and power steering racks being geared differently; they typically are.  Manual gearing is generally a balance between reasonable effort for the driver and effective steering.  Once driver effort is removed from the equation, you might as well make steering the most effective.

And I only say typically to defend myself against a pendant showing up saying the 1974 Ulru Peokba in Fulshu XL trim had the same gearing regardless if you chose power or manual steering.

Presumably the driver would just pull out into traffic with normal steering.

No one ever jokes about getting outof parallel parking.
