Can we make it $300 billion and bankrupt Comcast into oblivion?

I'm doing my part.

When all these streamers fail is everything going to fold back into netflix or am I gonna have to keep pirating everything

It's totally fine if they are hitting projections.

I think Resident Alien alone is worth the $5. They aren't the worst streaming service right now. About the middle of the pack I'd say in terms of worthwhile shows for the price.

I watch Peacock 4+ hours per day. It's got the best overall content, even compared to more premium streamers, most of which I'm considering dropping.

Netflix will probably fold before the likes of Prime or Disney.  Amazon, Disney, and Apple can absolutely afford to sink money into it if they feel like it.  Apple might be more willing than the other two to cut it loose if it's unprofitable after a while, though.

They are losing money because they are paying a ton to develop new content.

I have no problem springing $1.99/mo for Peacock and watching 90 seconds of ads for each half hour show. I wish more channels would set prices low enough that keeping them on year-round isn't a big deal.

Looking forward to starting Poker Face tonight. Finally something my wife will watch with me.

If I had to pick two final survivors it would be Disney and Amazon. Disney because it would take an act of god to make them lose money long term. Amazon because they actually have two different customer bases buying Prime. People that use it primarily for shipping and people that use it for everything else they offer. I have yet to talk to anyone who says that they use both halves of that service evenly.

Question: What happens to the Netflix properties if they fold? I love their foreign stand-up stuff and I don't want to see it go.

Someone big like Apple buys it, possibly sells off content piecemeal. Someone somewhere will end up with rights, but they may just hold them and not put them up for streaming unfortunately. That's happened enough times in the video game space.

Either someone else picks them up or they fall into the memory hole never to be seen again. I didn't think that was a big possibility until HBO cancelled Batgirl.

Taking a mostly completed work and just burning it for the tax dodge seems wrong.

I watched a lot of Star Trek when I had it. Lower Decks was especially good. Didn't feel worth the price though. I resubscribe once or twice a year to catch myself up.

Just watched Violent Night on it and went to cancel and they offered it to me for $2.50 for 3 months.

Comcast was losing money mainly by giving the Cock away when people tried to flee, or had problems with cable/internet(s) service... but it seems they found a way to make a little more cash this way since they were predicting bigger loses.

Netflix lost me, and I never tried the Cock... but the only thing I would be interested in regularly would be the wrestling library and live events.

I'm one of those people who can watch a series 100 times and still enjoy it. Currently I watch a LOT of Parks & Recreation and SNL reruns. Also The Office and Brooklyn 99.

Overall, I have to say the best streaming service is Hulu. It has the widest-ranging and newest content.

Prime Video is good, too, but it's real advantage is all the rentals. Which you don't need a subscription for, so why bother.

Peacock is mediocre. If you really REALLY want to watch old NBC shows, then obviously it's great, but how many of those are you going to watch?

The others...who cares. Netflix, especially, feels close to worthless these days.

yeah, not a bad take. and I get why they cancelled it because they basically cover everything in the book in that season.

they butcher the ending (how else are you going to go another season?) but the finale is so brutally awesome i didn't mind.

I started subscribing for EPL, then the spouse started watching a couple different things on there, so we get our money out of it.

These streaming services sneak up on you. A couple years ago I had Netflix and Prime. I recently realized we're up to five or six now. Dammit.

For me, prime pays for itself since I usually order a lot of Christmas gifts for people on Amazon. In fact, signing up for that has probably saved me at least $200 a year on shipping costs. So that's a net positive.

Peacock is pretty solid for what they offer as far as "background comedies" like The Office, Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec and That 70s show, and they generally have a pretty good selection of movies (the fact that Universal lets them put out their movies a month after theaters is nice, too. Watched Violent Night for free this weekend).

Really, Netflix has turned into the one I watch the least. Their originals have been okay at best and their library is stuff that either other streamers have or stuff I already bought on DVD or blu ray.

You must've had a really good deal on cable.

Before I cut the cord, my cable was costing me $130 a month. And that was just for digital cable with HBO and Starz.

Right now, I have Netflix, Prime, Disney and Hulu (got them in the bundle when Disney launched), Peacock, HBO Max, and Apple Plus, and my monthly expenses still come out to just over half of what I was paying.

Over expensive content is going to cause a lot of problems.  I was reading about some series that was canceled after several years (it might have been Westworld) and it ended up costing more than $200 per subscriber to make. That isn't how loss leaders work.  There is also stuff like the South Park deal that was an insane amount of cash.   Looking at what I'm watching now vs 5 years ago, I think there is less decent new content.  I'm watching more ancient reruns now than new content.

I was kind of joking, but I never got Cinemax/HBO... or any other of those kind of channels making a package more affordable since I have had it for a long time and don't fell a need to change it. Netflix had a great idea going for a time, and Starz wasn't bad for watching Ash vs Evil Dead which was pretty much all they had to offer.

Watched an episode of that recently in which the errand for a 3 year old was to  deliver happiness to mom in the hospital who has cancer. Brought a tear to my eyes.
