I just find it silly that there's an argument about it. Saying Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie is like saying Planes, Trains and Automobiles isn't a Thanksgiving movie because you never see anyone cook a turkey. But there isn't any mandatory checklist that has to be followed by every holiday movie to qualify as "official". The timing just has to be significant to the story or at least featured in the set dressing.
