The news of Justin Roiland's departure from the show may have left some fans wondering what other shows they can watch to fill the void.

What void? The season ended. A new season will start when it's supposed to. What a stupid excuse to make a listicle. This same article could've come out the day the season 6 finale ended and nothing would be different.

I remember that scene. Other dimension Rusty then drags out regular Rusty from the portal and tells him to stay in his own dimension instead of trying to cave his head in with a rock and take his place. (or something close to that)

Helluva Boss and related media on Youtube. Mildly NSFW. Vivziepop has some kind of drama related to some of the voice acting cast that I won't pretend I've followed, but the episodes that have been released are entertaining. And you probably haven't seen it unless you're one of a few million people on Youtube.

Final Space, if you can find (find it spelled T O R R E N T) it. It got killed in the WB/HBO mess. It's still a good show.

... and following the Adventure Time Line of thought, Steven Universe and Bee and Puppycat are both wonderful and can be enjoyed by both adults and younger whatevers. Those three series are fixed as a set in my mind.

The IT Crowd's creator is his own flavor of terrible. Linehan couldn't take criticism over one of his episodes furthering shiatty trans stereotypes, doubled, tripled, infinity-ed down, and basically replaced his entire personality with that of TERFMAN*. Killed his career, tanked his marriage, and is now reduced to screaming about how unfair it all is on social media. Watch Black Books instead, he only consulted on the first season to help get it ready for TV. The rest of it was Dylan Moran.

I enjoyed Bojack, but I gave up on it about thirty seconds before the end of the fifth season. I get that the point is that self-sabotaging people can sometimes be irredeemable but fuggin'ell man! Just got way too farking bleak. Thoroughly enjoyed the running Mister Peanut Butters sign printing gag. And the episode where they get into where the fried chicken comes from in a world where there are sentient humanoid chickens was one of the most conceptually farked up things I'd seen in a while.

Not on the list: Inside Job. Took a couple episodes to find its feet but it was a lot of fun. Even had me choking up at the end of S2. Shion Takeuchi and Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls fame worked on it. Bummer it got canceled.

*To the point of setting up fake dating profiles to get trans folks' personal information, then blasting it to his followers so they could harass and threaten them. Don't care where you fall on the "debate", that's farking psychopathic.

As a big R&M fan whose niece made him watch all of Adventure Time I'll just say... I thought it was silly and didn't pay much attention. Then I stuck with it and I was weeping by the end. There's a lot going on there if you stick with it for the later seasons. One of my AT (HA!) favorites. And I'm old. Like I was born in the 60's old.

For Rick and Morty to have any sort of future I think they need to move the timeline into Morty's adulthood and give him a spinoff that starts with the funeral of Rick Sanchez, and then delves into sort of a Venture Brothers-esqe storyline where Morty is much like Rusty Venture - a second-rate super-scientist.

Considering how last season ended, they could just do a "Poochie & Poochie went after Poochie Prime.  Note:  Poochie & Poochie  died on the way back to his home planet," and just do Space Beth instead of Rick and Jerry instead of Morty.

It had a good run. On to other things.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

There's very few 20 minutes comedies I have enjoyed over the last decade. I'll give a few episodes at least a shot before I'd punt on a show I enjoyed that much for that long. Dan Harmon is a pretty creative guy and I'm at least going to look at what he comes up with.

Last season is pretty tough, but it does finish bittersweet with a lean towards sweet. I just got into it like a month ago after several recommendations on here. Bojack goes from a D- to a D+ on the "Am I a Good Person/Manimal" scale by the end, but everyone else gets an overall good ending.

You know, I haven't seen a single post defend him or R&M. Even in those places. The usual opinion is 'well the show sucks now anyways, so fark 'em.' Anyways, this list is just a big pile of random shiat thrown up with no discernable rhyme or reason. I've seen most of those shows, all good except The IT Crowd because british humor is complete garbage, and Adventure Time because it is a children's show and not meant for a mature adult such as myself. A better list would have been your typical Adult Swim line up from the 2000s. And it would have made a hell of a lot more sense.

Over the last several years, I've had a number of roommates who are each young enough to be my daughters, meaning that my roommates are in their early 20s. Each of Adventure Time, Steven Universe and Bee and Puppycat speak very well to youth and maturation. All of them have themes around the choices a parent made in the past and the struggles their progeny have today. They're each pretty fantastic entertainment, but they're also something that works across generations and a lot deeper than they appear to be at first.

Forgot an important sentence:
Each of these has been something I've been able to share with my younger friends, as each of them has had some degree of parental abandonment in their own lives.

Eh... I'll give it a chance. No reason everyone else working on the show should lose their job because one guy is a piece of shiat. And if it means less entire episodes about sentient cum, the better.

Due to the amount of time Morty spent not being in school, I doubt he could successfully diagram a sentence, let alone be a 'super scientist'.

BTW, what happened with Evil Morty, the Yellow Portal Dimension and the destruction of the multi-verse ?

Mike McMahan was the showrunner for Season 4. He did "Pickle Rick".

Apparently, he a) has a show on Paramount+ that is three seasons strong, ("Lower Decks"), and b) hasn't assaulted nor kidnapped any of his exes.

I sorta drifted away at the start of the last season.  When I get Netflix again, I'm rewatching the whole thing.  It's a very complex show with a million hidden gems.

Probably the most impressive episode of the series is the Alzheimer's episode where we see the disease from the perspective of his mother.  The blank backgrounds and scribbled over faces representing the loss of memory short and long term really got to me.

I thought Rick was voiced by Dan Harmon for a very loooong time, simply because it sounds like him.

I'm not going to pretend Roildand's creative contribution to the show was minimal, but there is a glut of great voice talent out there, and I have no doubt there are lots of people capable of bringing those characters to life.
