Maybe we can convince the NRA to pick up the tab on the medical bills when this sh*t happens. They seem to have a lot of money to throw around.

That's simple.  Start a mass shooting victim's fund footed by the state.  It's all covered by taxpayers it'll be good for everyone.

Great idea, and California already has this:
https://victims.ca.gov

At the top of the web page it explicitly states that the victims of these shootings are eligible for reimbursement. My guess is that Newsom didn't want to make the guy feel stupid, so he didn't mention it right then.

It says they are able to get up to 70k for medical bills. How far does 70k go? My birth cost 20k in 2011, and I didn't have a c section or transfusion or anything so I don't imagine it goes that far for gunshot wounds.

That's good. Maybe have someone pop back and let him know. Just don't let the hospital know or they'll triple the rates.

"Reimbursement" though would make me nervous. How quickly can they get the money back to the person and what happens if they can't afford to pay it in the first place? Can't reimburse what hasn't been paid yet.

Why. They are responsible for 3% of the murders. Why not pick on 9mm which is probably number one in murders and suicides.

Nobody likes the cost of healthcare.  News journalists can express it in a way that isn't a single unverifiable tweeted sentence from an unnamed source.  Propaganda is propaganda, even when we agree with the message.

The maximum state payout is $70,000, he doesn't have insurance.  Do you think the hospital bill for 1 week in the ICU with surgeries will be higher or lower than $70k?

I like Canada's balance on both issues better. The government taxes the shiat out of us, but medical care is covered and for the most part the people who have handguns are gangsters who use them on each other.

The tweet is referencing the speech Newsom gave yesterday. Doesn't seem like a story he would just make up, even if he doesn't name the victim.

The bill for ANYTHING extensive in an American hospital for someone without insurance is whatever they have minus the cost of a lawyer to negotiate the expenses down to exactly whatever they have.

Sounds like my ex daughter in law. Refuses to pay for medical insurance through her work because "that shiat just cost too much"  She can get single coverage for herself at work for 32 dollars a week. She spends around a 100 a week on vape products etc. So do I feel sorry for her when she is sick and cant afford to go to the dr? NOPE. Her and the grandkids live in a house I own for free and myself and my son provide all the clothing food etc the grands need. But she cant swing 32 bucks? She is currently whining she cant buy a new car because her credit is ruined due to unpaid medical bills. Her fault and Im not helping her get one. She has tried to get my son to put her on his with my grands. Some people are just irresponsible. The dr hospital etc are pirates for sure. And I sympathize with anyone who has a reason to be going into the hospital. But when you look at it the majority just choose to opt out and roll the dice they wont need it so they can put rims on their pick up or buy shiat like cigs beer etc. They roll those dice and they get snake eyes? On them. Not my problem
