First off I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan and never saw this sketch before so thanks for that.
Secondly I talk to my cat a lot and I used to call her names like little Miss Poopenheimer. Then I started asking for her advice when I was unsure about something going on. Basically I was saying out loud what I was thinking to sorta check out if it was insane/stupid. I kid you not, she started talking back. A lot. I don't speak cat (yet) but yeah, she's definitely voicing an opinion. I'm taking her to the vet Thursday for THE operation. She might stop speaking to me after that. I wouldn't blame her.

Yes, it's rule #1. If he had a loaded gun sitting on the back seat with a dog he deserves what he got. FFS, even back when I was growing up people wouldn't put loaded guns in their gun rack in the truck. Well, I'm sure some lazy people did but they wouldn't put something ready to fire in the rack - there was always a chance it might fall off. Of course, I can't remember many people hunting with semi automatic rifles back in the day, it was mostly bolt action or pump shotguns.

The rifle wasn't in the rack.  It was in the back of the truck.  Likely he had the rifle out to use (poaching?) and had set it down, which is when his dog decided to dish up some payback for feeding him that dried dog food crap.

I've owned lots of dogs and the vast majority of them LIKED dry dog food. Granted, they liked wet dog food better, but I can't remember a dog that turned their nose up at dry dog food. Not like my farking cat, who apparently has the palate of a Michelin star chef.

I knew a dog named Jesus.

You'd go over to this guy's house in your Honda or Chevette, and as soon as you pulled into the driveway, out would lope this Great Dane, who'd put his paws on top of your pathetic little car, press his nose to the driver's side window, and go, "WOOF."

It all happened so suddenly, you'd just look over and there's this enormous ugly wet dog-face above you, so you'd go "JESUS!"

I mean, sure, his registered name was Fluffy or something, but no one actually called him that.

Great Danes are an absolute blast, but they die young. My neighbors growing up always had at least two of them, and they are the goofiest big dogs there are. I never met a mean one, but they would break shiat all the time just because of their sheer size.

Is a person who can't distinguish a "truck" from a "car" even qualified to have an opinion on any subject involving vehicles or transportation, of any kind?
I have been informed on Fark that anyone who wishes to discuss anything must be fully versed in any technological or scientific issues involved, directly or indirectly.

They did a study of that and found that cats are nonverbal communicators among themselves. However, they are intelligent enough to know that us humans are verbal communicators, so they're always meowing at us. Also, they are able to detect the change in tone which says that we are done speaking, so they know when to meow. Scientists watched humans and cats interact in a lab setting and watched some human and cat subject carry on "conversations" for as long as 20 minutes. I used to do it with my friend's cat.
There's tons of studies and articles about cats recognizing when they are being spoken to, even if they don't understand what you're saying.

It's not 'Murica without some quotes from the story:

Gilligan said he was in the hospital about two and a half weeks after he was shot. He returned home to his three dogs - Charlie, Cowboy and Scooter. A week later, Charlie and Cowboy were dead.
"(Charlie) got shot and so did Cowboy and that's really sad," Gilligan said. "Scooter is still here with me. Charlie would never mean to shoot me, he was such a gentle dog. Cowboy is the mean one, he would've shot me on purpose. He was a little catahoula dog, but he was a mean guy."
