Seriously. I guess the Twitter purchase was not the first time his ego got him in a mess with a stupid Tweet. He was so wanting to be a big shot on Twitter about taking Tesla private he jumped the gun, and it probably pissed off some on the Saudi side which is why they called it off. Why else would they dump the Tesla stock they did own a year later? Unlike Musk with buying Twitter, the Saudis did not leave any evidence of a verbal deal being agreed upon, giving them an out.

Tesla shareholders that bought the electric-car maker's stock in the days following the tweet are suing him, seeking billions of dollars in damages."

So the people who are suing him bought shares AFTER the tweet, expecting that they were gonna make a killing when he bought them out?

He's already had to say under oath that his 420 a share tweet wasn't a joke.  Apparently joking publicily in a way that sways major financial sectors is frowned upon.

I know. Still angry that "just a joke" defense let Elmo beat a prima facie defamation case. His lawyer must have been tap-dancing faster than the lawyer in Chicago the musical.

No, subby, this is Elmo trying to run away from the simple fact that his shiatpost is actionable. The "c'mon, it was a shiatpost - CEOs can shiatpost like regular folks, right?" defense didn't work, so he now claiming the "c'mon, it wasn't a shiatpost, but it was based on what this dude told me, and he reneged so it's really his fault, not mine" defense.

Doesn't matter, Elmo. Your shiatpost, your problem. Suck it up, buttercup.

A majority shareholder announcing publicly that they'd secured funding to take a company private leads people might convince people to buy shares now so they can sell them high shortly. That happens just on rumors, much less direct announcement. And a majority shareholder intentionally lying to bump inflate prices is called market manipulation.

In an ongoing civil trial in San Francisco federal court, Musk continued to defend his 2018 tweet about having the "funding secured," for a Tesla transaction, saying that Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of Saudi Arabia's Private Investment Fund, had "verbally" expressed support for the plan.

That's just talk dog. It's 180 degrees from "secured". Now no one has ever accused me of being a genius but I'll lay it out for you. "Secured" means you have either the money or a binding contract saying the money will be provided when you do _____.

When is the genius committee going to change his status. Some of his shiat is just unbelievable. I did once upon a time think he was super smart. Whatever else he is dude is a serious serial liar.

I'm not saying it was OK for Ol' Musky to do that. I'm saying anyone with a lick of sense would understand why this sort of shiat isn't announced via Twitter, especially until AFTER everything is finalized and it's too late to make a quick buck on it.

There's plenty of dumbassery to go around, in this one.

Eh, plenty of announcements and press releases happen on Twitter these days. While it's not entirely a smart move it's also not entirely a dumb idea to assume Elon might be stupid enough to announce something that if he's lying about could be criminal, and to throw some dollars at it. He's the patron saint of unforced errors.
