I can see it.  I was at Gettysburg over a year ago, and the town itself did have the charm you'd expect from a Hallmark movie set.  Highly advising visiting over a couple days, to take in the battlefield as well as all the sights and stores in town as well.  There's a fantastic Italian restaurant over east of the town square that makes the best Naples-style pizzas.

Christopher Reeve hated the contract that bound him for Superman III and IV. At one point he bemoaned it to Gene Hackman, who basically told him not to knock an easy paycheck.  Reeve had co-writer credits on IV, which put him at odds with the director.

Bottom line, actors do movies to make money during off years, because Hollywood is nothing if not impermanent.

There's also the convention circuit which also helps.

His dad, Bing Russell, was a veteran actor who much like Ron Howard's parents, knew what the business could do to a child. Not all actor parents could make it happen but some parents kept their children on a track.

Watch "The Battered Bastards of Baseball" sometime. You can see Bing made sure his children just did not live in the world of studio sets.

Jim_Tressel's_O-Face: I can see it.  I was at Gettysburg over a year ago, and the town itself did have the charm you'd expect from a Hallmark movie set.  Highly advising visiting over a couple days, to take in the battlefield as well as all the sights and stores in town as well.  There's a fantastic Italian restaurant over east of the town square that makes the best Naples-style pizzas.


Dobbin House is a good site for it as well since it's still made up like mid-1800s, including the secret between-floors basement where they hid escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad.  It's about 3-feet high, and they've set up a diorama to show what it would have been like for the slaves- not exactly comfortable, but given that Gettysburg is only ~10 miles from the border really important to stay concealed.

CSB: a friend of mine was a guest at Dragon Con a few years back, and his autograph table was next to Lee Majors. He was the absolute nicest guy you could imagine. Chatted with him several times throughout the weekend, and even got to speaking about my family. I'd mentioned that my dad's birthday was coming up and the family was trying to plan something really off the charts fun for him. At the end of the weekend he made sure to come over to my friend's booth and gave him an envelope. It was a birthday card that he'd filled out for my dad (as it happens my dad is a big fan).

Found out later that he got info from my friend to get my dad's contact info and gave him a phone call on his actual birthday.

I've heard horror stories about the personalities of some celebrities. He was the complete opposite.

I've been to Gettysburg twice for a family emergency. Didn't see much besides the hospital, motel, and outlet mall. Got to drive through the battlefield and downtown.
Downtown wasn't great traffic-wise. I can only imagine what filming a movie would do to traffic.
It was also the one and only time I will visit a Sheetz. EFFF SHEETZ

Guy Fieri has had Lee Majors in guest spots on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives and on Guy's Grocery Games. Guy is apparently a big fan and Lee seems like a nice person.
