Correct answer: When you are still getting income from a business other than salary such as stock options. Anything less and you are a cog to them to be replaced. Make them fire you, or just jump straight to unemployment for constructive dismissal.

Only if it's accompanied by a slightly higher pay raise.

Pay cuts are just one of the many reasons to leave a job ASAP.  At this point they have to give me a good reason to stay, and they have to do it every week.

Pay less, work less

About ten years ago, I took another position that was a grade lower. It didn't cut my immediate pay because of the overlap, but I'm probably 15-20% below what I'd be making now if I'd remained in the other position.

In return, this job has taken me to nearly twenty countries on the company dime, to many places only a relative handful of people have ever seen, has nearly killed me a couple of times and has allowed me to meet some amazing people.

Best work decision ever.

FTA:

The new year is barely underway, but for Apple CEO Tim Cook, 2023 is already memorable - though not in a way you may expect. In an SEC filing, Apple announced that Cook will receive a big pay cut in 2023, and the filing noted that he requested the cut. "Mr. Cook's 2023 target total compensation is $49 million, a reduction of over 40% from his 2022 target total compensation," the filing noted.

While asking for a pay cut certainly isn't the norm, a November 2022 survey from staffing company Insight Global reveals that 61% of workers said they would be willing to take a pay cut to avoid being laid off if there is a recession.

WTF is this absolute nonsense.

Comparing CEO Tim Cook's $49 million compensation to workers who said they would accept pay cuts to avoid layoffs during a recession.

Who f*cking wrote this absolute idiocy?

There's still plenty of morons out there that think Apple is the trendsetter to watch, despite Jobs being long dead

I left a job for one making about $7K less just to get out of an extremely toxic environment. It was bad enough that a grown man broke down in tears in front of me when I told him I was leaving, because I was escaping.

My company offered 10% cut or risk of furlough.  I got axed with a 100% cut.  Wheeeeeee!!!

My entire team walked off a job last march because the employer decided they were going to throw out our 3 year contracts and "adjust pay to within market rates" which worked out to about 32%.  They wanted to save the money and that's exactly what they got.  Nevermind all of the mental health patients left without providers.

Any time the cost of living goes up, and my pay doesn't, I have effectively taken a pay cut. So, pretty much every year.

There's no reason anyone should ever accept a pay cut for anything, since you're all involved in soulless, lucrative fields that do well at the end of the world.  Now if you wanted to do good works or something, you might have to take a pay cut, since those jobs don't pay as well.

But you won't have that problem, and we're not even talking about something like that, since you won't do that shiat work.  And since you don't have any ethics  either, except making money, there's no reason why you shouldn't get out there and press for just as much money as you can get.
Pro-tip:  the most destructive industries and fields make the most money.  And that's right where you belong.  You deserve it.

I'd take your constant proselytizing about the evils of modern culture and how we as drones are evil soulless corrupt and shallow if you actually had something to offer as an alternative. I remember you saying some incredibly insightful things a couple of years ago and have you favorited as a Joseph Campbell espousant, is this how you seek your joy?

I've taken pay cuts more than once - to do work I'd rather be doing, or to have a better work/life balance.

But that's always been of the form "I'm quitting this job and taking a new one.  The pay is lower but I really wouldn't want to stay here much longer no matter how much money you offered me."

If my boss came to me and offered to pay me 10% less next year, I'd just laugh.   Or I'd offer to work half as much as I do now.

PS I've got only a handful of Farkers on ignore; there is one in this thread whom I've got labeled as "whiny".  I heartily recommend the Ignore feature in persistent cases like his.
