Gothamist is pushing "they're all on drugs!" I see.  Yep, Narcan is available.  Yep, some places want some around.  No, it's not omg all the bars have to have this cause ODs left and right.  Somewhere that gets a lot of serious party scene people it's a sane addition to the first aid kit.  Most places it's not gonna be all that relevant

Yes, bars that the junkies hang out at are so much fun. Who doesn't love pissing into a urinal full of puke?

The article says there is an overdose every three hours in New York. That's eight ODs every 24 hours. I think the situation has a little more crisis effect than using a first aid kit.

I say the first move of defund the police is take narcan and AEDs out of the cars.

And "First aid kit" merely signifies medical assistance stuff that usable by non-professionals here

it's spelt Kant... I assume you're referring to his oft quoted Fiat justitia, pereat mundus ("Let justice be done, though the world perish"), the motto of Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor.
and it means justice must be done, not that it's ok to let people die.  you need to hit the books, dude!

Cool. I understand what you mean. And, yes, there are a lot of damn bars in New York. I just went over there during the summer. Some parts were fun, other parts were not. I like to sit in the fancy restaurants and sip on a good ale. Some of the bars were terrible.

the London Assembly (holds the Mayor to account) has written this incredibly progressive document, recommending drug strategy for the city.

tories will stymie as much of it as they can, I'm sure.

These are still people, with families and people who love them and worry about them.

Biden should announce an executive order to require all bars, restaurants and school. The GQP will promptly ban it in their states.

Then, we wait.

They're not all junkies.

A lot of people will sometimes have just a little heroin, as a treat.

I have multiple myeloma (and a couple of other cancers, but the myeloma is a terminal blood cancer, and kinda the most important). Anywho, I take like (not exaggerating!) 25+ meds every day and a few more during the week, not to mention the chemo and what I might be given before some kind of testing. That's the background to this CSB.

A couple of weeks ago, I brought in the latest batch of meds from the VA Pharmacy. (Thank God I have the VA: I get great medical care and pay virtually bupkis; everyone in the USA, if I had my way, would have socialized medicine similar to this so they don't have to be afraid of living a medically impoverished life in retirement because of illnesses.) In the batch of meds, I found a nasal spray I'd never heard of and don't remember discussing with any of my medical team. I do use an over-the-counter nasal spray because I have pets and sometimes the pet dander makes my nose run, but I have never discussed this with anyone because I don't want to have another series of tests. Yes, it could be important but I'm already on Death's Wait List, so meh.

A couple of weeks later, I asked my oncologists' assistant about it. It turns out that it is now the VA policy to send all patients who use controlled substances like morphine a couple of doses of Narcan in case of overdose (accidental or otherwise). No one ever mentioned this to me. They probably should have because I might've accidently used it thinking it was just a nasal spray to make my nose less runny and because I'd run-out of my OTC nasal spray. Had no one been home, I could've died. I didn't read the literature because that would have meant opening the box it came in, and I never used it anyway because I have enough drugs to warrant mine own medicine cabinet. (Hubby just has diabetes and his meds take up half the armoire in his walk-in closet, 8'x12'.)

If you are a Vet and taking a controlled pain-reliever like morphine, and you receive a nasal spray called something like (I don't have it in front of me) Naxolone, do not use it until you first read the literature for it and discuss it with at least your primary care provider (PCP). It could cause reactions that are difficult to quickly recover from. It is not a nasal spray for the sniffles, runny nose, or any similar condition. It is meant to shock the hell outta your body if you are doing drugs and accidently ingest, inject or inhale something dangerous like that phen stuff we keep hearing is killing younger addicts because the drug makers are using it as filler or something. Don't take a drug you don't remember talking to your doctor about or remember a prescription for it.

I have a username on different forums that people always mistakenly pronounce as Narcan.  I used the username on a harmonica forum years ago as a throw away (it was the name of my Elf character in D&D) and then I got hooked on harmonica (which, unfortunately, Narcan doesn't help with) and it followed me everywhere because that's what people new me as.

Lurk Who's Talking: Don't take a drug you don't remember talking to your doctor about or remember a prescription for it.

Ayup.  You don't know what it is or why you're getting it?  Put it aside and contact your doc.  Even if the pharmacist explains and it sounds innocuous - if it's the first you recall hearing about this then contact your doc.  Plain old mistakes happen more often than you'd hope, and some of them can wreck you or kill you - or maybe both

It's the same thing for us regular Joes here in NJ for those on narcotic pain meds. A while ago I got a couple doses of narcan with my usual delivery that I wasn't expecting. It's a pretty good plan to me. I just bring them out with with me just in case someone else needs it...
