(The Spun)   Evidently Al Michaels has called so many bad games this year that he forgot how to sound interested when calling a good one   (thespun.com) divider line

I prefer a flat announcer over a Harry Caray.

Poor poor poor Al. All of those years with mostly good games on Sunday nights. And then you chase big cramazon money to announce for warmup games. So very sad for you. Very very sad.

Don't worry, the way that Tony Romo has been making late-stage Madden look lucid, I'm sure we'll still have many years of entertainment ahead of us.

Your blog sucks a lot more than Al Michaels does, I'll tell you that.

Kuta: Watch TV. Listen to the radio.

While I can do that with the Eagles as 94.1 syncs the stream to the Comcast HD broadcast, Westwood One or whoever on the radio that broadcasts for these national games is not synced, so its a horrible experience...

Radio announcers in every city are always better than the generic TV ones.   Why the NFL somehow adopted that formula instead of home team announcers like the other major sports is beyond me....

I don't need emotional cues from the announcer to tell me if the game is interesting or not.

Home team announcers are generally terrible. Even when I'm a fan of the home team, their obvious paid biases are nauseating.

Dave Portnoy is too stupid to live.  In any other century he'd be dead.

Apparently, the "NFL World" are the Twitter accounts of Dave Portnoy @stoolpresidente and Warren Sharp @SharpFootball who clearly live in Jacksonville, FL.

Paul Allen is hard to listen to and I am a Vikings fan. One home team announcer who has a bias but is very good is the White Sox' Steve Stone.

I couldn't hear the alleged call over Dave screaming at the TV. But from what I could hear, it sounded a lot like Harry Doyle's back-up announcer calling a play in Major League.

No one should be saying "Don't touch that dial" in 2023. Mommy, what's a dial? Gee, little Billy I don't know. Go ask Grandma. Maybe she'll know.

In Philly I disagree.  Both the Flyers and Phillies TV and Radio teams are fantastic.  I dont think there's a bias, they just get excited when I'm excited and are bummed out when I am bummed out. Bias would be them biatching at the refs/umps for calls against the home team, etc...  they usually call it like it is.  "The Eagles got away with one there"..   "That was a stupid, stupid play by the Eagles"

Years ago NFL network had those short 10-20 minute game replays on demand for every football game.  I watched all of them for the games that weren't broadcast.  They used the home team radio announcers and I loved all of them.  Except maybe Myron Cope (Steelers color guy), he was not well in those later years me thinks..

I've had it with announcers breathlessly, desperately trying to force drama into a game. If your takeaway from a game like that is that the announcers weren't excited enough, the problem may be that you don't like sports.

There's a lot of truth in Portnoy's Twitter handle.

He's certainly the President of Stool.

I don't mind when home team announcers are like, "that was a weak call by the ref" that penalizes their team, but you also have to note when it's a weak call that favors your team.

I turned it off when it was 17-0 and part of the reason, I had had enough was the duo of Kid Coma and Doctor Sominex doing the game.

"This is why TNF was brutal to watch. Al Michaels needs to retire. Pay Chris Fowler whatever he wants to do it," one fan idiot wrote.

Well that's certainly one of the dumbest takes I've ever seen.  Yeah sure, that turd of a game between the Broncos and Colts was bad because of Al Michaels, not because they were both competing for the biggest dumpster fire.

Honestly Al's snarky comments have been the best thing about the TNF games by and large.

I wish 2 things:
1)  I could turn off the announcers
2)  I can turn off the piped in fake crowd noise
