He just wants to make sure there's never an IRS investigation into his "benefit for veterans" concerts where 99.5% of the proceeds went to his personal fried cheese cannon.

All they have to do to tank the economy is doubling down on standard republican economic policy.

2023-01-11 5:16:41 AM
It would be great if the GQP would stop lying.
They want to shut down the government to both make Biden look bad (he caused it!) and to create a crisis which justifies severe cuts to social security (end the employer match /SSDI), and Medicare/Medicaid (increase eligibility age, add means testing, etc).  They will leave the individual taxes in place, move the cash to the general fund to justify further tax cuts on wealth or bombing more brown people.
There are no GQP ideas to replace the lost services with a feasible system.  For example, we could switch to portable defined benefit pensions in place of SS, but would need the same employer match.  There is no viable replacement for Medicare/Medicaid except a fully government run plan like the UK's NHS.
And just as absurd is the idea that the razor thin control of the House can accomplish any far right goals.  They simply don't have the votes, and red states need that sweet sweet federal cash to support their economies and jerbs.
I guess it's entertaining to watch Quevin roll over every day and expose his belly in surrender while Dark Brandon gets shiat done.

Followed by the Treasury announcing that in order to prevent the US from defaulting on its debt, all federal outlays to individuals in districts whose representative voted to crash the US (i.e. GQPers) are halted effective immediately.

Shutting down the government is the safest, most effective way to ensure the corruption that still infects in the senate and white house are rendered inert and harmless.

Government never shuts down. Essential services will exist. Grandma, mom and dad, they're going to get their Social Security check. Medicare's not going to be shut down. The military's not going to be shut down.

Embassies and national parks get shut down, you twit. People actually use those services.

See, I disagree on that.  Who in the world does the shut down of the US government and the subsequent failure to pay our debts benefit?  It certainly doesn't benefit US corporations that require a stable, powerful US economy.  No, it benefits China (who wants to replace us as the world's currency) and Russia (as it destabilizes us).  Basically, it benefits our enemies.  Now, assuming we agree with that, asking why GQP wants to cause a shutdown and default on our debt is easier to answer - They are being influenced (via bribery or blackmail) by our enemies.  Think about that the next time you discuss this with your GQP parents/uncles.

/Back in my day we learned to keep things in their proper suspective

They tried this when they had Trump in the White House and a chaos-addicted media fellating Trump and people were still against it, and IIRC were correctly assigning blame.

I think they expect to be able to force a bunch of derptastic concessions

I don't think the trumpers understand what will happen to each of them if/when they initiate a global economic crisis. They seem to believe it'll be over in a weekend.

And if they ever got anywhere NEAR causing a default, a 10,000 drop in a day would look like an economic boom.

There hasn't been a Republican in the White House for two years now. I will give you this, though; publicly and proudly shutting down the government WOULD get a lot of the corruption out of the Senate, because it would devastate the GOP's chances in '24.

If the democrats had any sense, they should have used their time in charge to add provisions that when the government is shut down, military pay stops, the FAA shuts down (no ATC means no flights) and if it lasts longer than a month, social security stops.

You don't actually think the Republican conference in the House is going to be financially impacted in any way, right? Because that would be silly.

How about Hannity go without pay during the shutdown in solidarity for what public employees will experience? Maybe freeze his bank accounts as well to level the playing field in terms of actual revenue.

Been saying this for years. In the event of an impending default to stretch the budget just stop all funding to states whose reps voted majority against.
