I don't know if you're correct on the law, but it can be fun to write embarrassing explanations on the memo line of personal checks you resent writing. Claim they're for foot rubs, cleaning up dog poop, something like that.

The only checks I write any more are to my ex for support.  I'm gonna try this and see how long it takes her to notice.

Years ago, I was taking to a friend of a friend from El Monte. When I mentioned I lived in South Pasadena, he replied "Oh, North El Monte."

I laughed.
