Right? I mean it's good that Jack Smith is on the case now, but it would have been nice if the wheels of justice had turned a little faster, for instance, taking action before the insurrection supporters got re-elected, or before the Sedition Caucus gained control of the damned House.

One hopes that the public attention a state prosecution will garner will put additional pressure on the Justice Department to move forward.

In football, an effective offensive strategy is flooding the zone - putting multiple eligible receivers in on area to outnumber and overwhelm the defenders.

This is what Trump has done with the federal criminal code. He's committed so many crimes that it is difficult to make prosecutorial decisions, simplify a case or even stop investigating because there is so much evidence.

I think it is good that Dana (my old classmate, WB '87) is considering prosecuting the fake elector scam, as I really believe that DOJ is having trouble filtering the magnitude of Trump's crimes.

So then its time for Dobbs in AZ and Shapiro in PA and other governors to move their AGs to prosecute those states' slates of fake electors and their public forgeries and conspiracy to commit forgery and defraud the state.

Good, I guess.  Not sure why the case was ever closed.  She should have been working on charging them under state law this whole time, but better later than never.

Gotta say, the female politicians in Michigan are really setting the pace for everybody else. Gretchen Whitmer, Jocelyn Benson, Mallory McMorrow, and Dana Nessel are hitting home runs every time they come up to the plate. Really hope to see all of them at the federal level soon.

The case was never opened. It was immediately referred to federal authorities (to at least get direction in the matter). Since this really didn't happen, state charges are being broughten. In January of 2021, prosecuting this would have been difficult on the state level. After the Jan 6 Hearings and evidence dump, it's the federal help that Nessel needed to get the ball rolling. Which is nice.

I DO realize that the false signatories basically outed themselves by attaching their names to scheme, but having the proof of "who did the asking and arm-twisting" to make it happen is a big plus if the 16 morons in MI that signed on to it don't try to make a deal.

from what i gather on the tea leaves the DOJ is still fighting for access to Scott Perry's phone (R-PA).  Since he was the key architect . that is the main holdup.  Even the Jan 6th committee dispositions had the Fake elector scheme stuff redacted.

not going to go into a court without all your arsenal.  expect something during the summer of this year.  Guarantee it

This should be done in Wisconsin, as well.  The fake electors met in a secret place, then drove with an armed guard to the capitol, where they were let in to the locked building by U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, to sign the illegal documents.  Why all the skullduggery if you believed what you were doing was righteous?

State charges, not federal. The DOJ can't shut down a state investigation, and a state dropping state indictments. No matter what's brewing at the federal level for folks higher up in the various coup attempts (seemingly so far a wet fart), state charges are both appropriate and good. A future GOP POTUS can pardon federal convictions. Governors typically can pardon state charges, so the more jurisdictions indictments and convictions are spread between the better. Ideally, the folks involved in the 1/6 coup attempts would have both a federal conviction and one in at least one, if not more than one, states. That'll make it harder for the GOP to just hit a big "undo" button.

And I guess Nessel must be an "Eeyore" too, for having the apparently rare power to notice the glaringly obvious.

Some brave government investigators are going to have to work for free until the house passes a spending bill, agrees to raise the debt ceiling.

To me, it makes more sense to handle this particular case at the state level anyway.  The states are the ones who choose their electors and certify them to Congress. If someone put forward fraudulent electors, isn't that a state crime?  I understand that there are federal-level people involved here, but they can be charged with state crimes too - just look at Georgia

They submitted the fake electors. It could be criminal in both jurisdictions.

I suppose I should say, there were no concrete investigations (no subpoenas issued or punitive measures sought). All the state's materials went to the feds, who continued to screw the pooch and ignore the issue. Well... we'll see if this gets any headway. Last year's "investigation".

Why "Eeyores"? Why not "Debbie Downers"?

Either way, it's not either to want your government to f#cking DO something about the criminals who are destroying our nation and endangering us all, and lamenting the fact that they've had literally years to do something and so far, have done next-to-nothing.

Trump not being in prison by now is a f#cking travesty of justice. The only reason he and most of his sycophantic toadies aren't rotting in federal prison by now is because the system is broken. People are in key positions to throw a monkey wrench into the gears and stop the wheels of justice from ever turning when people like Trump are involved.

If that isn't abundantly clear by now, then I don't know... You have more hope and faerie dust and unicorn farts in your heart and mind than I can even fathom. Unless Trump ends up in prison within the next few months, there's no effort to do anything to him, or Boebert, or MTG, or Gaetz, or anyone else with a federal job or millions of dollars who participated in various criminal schemes, attempted coups, and acts of treason and terrorism. The only people going down for it are the rube-grunts who listened and obeyed.
