This is cymbalic of the beating Broadway has taken. Shows have been brushed aside, throne out, and given the high-hat since the pandemic and it was only a matter of time before this came to a head and they were drummed out of town. I guess they'll have to pedal their sticks somewhere else.

Stomp was the Cats of off Broadway theater.

Stomp always struck me as a show that would be cool for the first five minutes, then get real old, real quick.

I went to go see this show when it toured through North Carolina many years ago.  And yeah, you're pretty much right.

It was interesting enough of an experience the 1st time around but it's not something I would ever want to see more than once.

It is a shame that is does seem to be coming to an end though.

I'll be the unpopular voice of dissent (I'm used to standing alone.)

Saw STOMP twice, in touring form.  It's a fun mix of percussion, physical performance, comedy, drama...all without words.  Absolutely a fun show!

I look forward to the one SMART I'll get from the other person who liked it.

Bring in 'da Noise was better anyway. Savion Glover could hoof over Stomp every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Stroll up to any decent corner street performers in NYC or London and you'll see the same show for whatever you want to contribute.

One night on the 7 train platform under Grand Central, I saw a rastafarian looking guy with a classical guitar playing Mangore's "El Ultimo Cancion" in a way that would have made John Williams proud. I passed on two trains to catch his follow up of Segovia's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra". Gave him $10.

Another time there was a violin guy playing Vivaldi as if he was Pinchas Zuckerman.

I mean, it sucks to see a show shut down, but that just clears the way for something fresh to take its place.

It seems like it would be awesome if it was used for scene changes of another play or musical.

Saw this when it was at the Joseph Papp theatre back on the 90s.  Bloody brilliant!

So it is to be replaced with yet another jukebox musical, or a classic film stage adaptation without cinematography but with mediocre songs?

The Joe Papp is one of my favorite theaters ever. I saw Patrick Stewart as Prospero in their production of The Tempest. I still have a signed clipping of The NY Times ad somewhere.

I saw stomp and blue man group within like a few weeks of each other and it was awesome.
It was also about 30 years ago when I was a kid.

On two separate occasions I chaperoned a group of fourth and fifth graders to a performance at the Orpheum in Memphis. Someone was very generous and paid for the entire bus load to see a Saturday matinee performance so a handful of adults and roughly thirty children loaded onto a bus for the three-hour drive there. We did not let any of them know what they were going to see until we actually got on Interstate 55. When they found out they went bananas.

Our seats were in the first mezzanine. None at the edge but when the performance started almost everyone was at the ledge, kneeling down with their chins resting on their crossed arms watching like the show was just for them. We grown-ups liked it but the children spoke about it for months. That was a magical experience they will carry with them their entire life.

The second trip happened two years later and it was a repeat of that first trip in every way. Regrettably our benefactor passed away and his heirs were not as keen on sharing his good fortune so there was never a third trip.

It may have it critics but for a group of eight to ten-year-olds it will always hold a special place in their hearts. Mine too for seeing how they lit up their faces and hearts that day.

They tried something similar when I was in elementary school in the 70s. I declined to get on the bus without knowing the destination. That was similar to the tactic employed when I needed to get a shot at the doctor and I was hopped up on stranger danger coloring books from my uncle the cop. they got pushy, so I referenced kidnapping and ruined everything for everyone. Good times...

Picture it; Sicily, 1918...

OK, upstate New York, a few years decades back.... Our high school music teacher put together a field trip to a Broadway play, we just had to come up with the actual ticket money ourselves.  A busload of us went to see On the Twentieth  Century (a matinee) and we sat in the mezzanine.   You know who the cast was?  A young Kevin Kline, a not-so-young but still made-of-rubberbands Imogene Coca, and Madeline motherfaarking Kahn!  All for a $13 matinee ticket!

Yeah, kids don't forget shiat like that!  Kudos to whoever your benefactor was, because all too often kid's exposure to the Arts suffers because it's the sports and jocks that get all the funding.
