So you thought it worked like a bank, but you didn't read the terms of service.

Surprising how many supposedly smart people forget the classics:

The Celsius Letters were pretty illuminating.  It's amazing for all the talk about "the technology", none of the people invested seem to understand anything about Celsius or what it does.  They just loved Alex Machinsky and his Ask Me Anythings where he guaranteed them massive returns that were completely safe.  Any person who understands investing knows that this is nonsense, but Alex would say "the technology" and "banks could give you massive returns, but they don't because they're jerks."

This is what people wanted to hear - that finally they were smart enough to get on the inside track to riches that only rich people used to get.  He's just a basic conman telling marks that they're smarter than everyone else and promising them the riches they deserve.

The saddest thing is the people who lost everything.  The most infuriating thing is that many of the people who lost everything are certain that if they can get their coins back then they will be rich from them.

It means they can guarantee me 20% interest, no risk!

The rubes forgot. If you want to sit on a beach earning 20% you're gonna have to be the crook, not the bank.

/though I suppose crypto is the new bearer bond, isn't it?

Finally, a use case for crypto:  replacing bearer bonds in remakes of Heat and Die Hard.

"Investors with Earn accounts have been and remain creditors of Celsius. That means Celsius still owes them. Exactly how much they'll recover, is the unknown."

I think I can hazard a guess.

Very anti-climatic to see them crack the vault at Nakatomi Plaza just to reveal.... a USB thumb drive.

/but who will replace Alan Rickman? Noboby. That's who.

You can do fancy printed stuff as long as there's a QR code or other representation of the cryptographic keys on there somewhere.
