My understanding was Lyanna was just going to be in one episode, but they liked Bella Ramsey's performance so much (as did the fans) they expanded the part.  Pity so much else of the late seasons of GoT was mailed in.  But she was always good.

I could watch The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite gameplay and cut scenes all day.

But for some reason a TV series doesn't appeal to me. It might be cause a game will have a conclusion.

There's a Horizon: Zero Dawn movie on YouTube that is essentially (just) a playthrough with cutscenes.  Aboiut 6 hours.

This is going to come out, the general public is going to be baffled at why their nerdier friends wouldn't shut up about how amazing the game is when it's just another zombie apocalypse remix, and then it will get dumped into the same pop culture compost bin as John Carter, Uncharted or Y The Last Man. And I say that as someone who enjoyed the twelve minutes of actual gameplay that interrupted the 90 hours of cutscenes.

I'm actually really looking forward to this show, which is weird because I had negative interest in the game. From all the clips and Let's Play style videos I've seen it just looks like misery layered on top of misery, and the characters come off as total psychopaths.

You two definitely will be The Last Of Us if you keep killing everybody.

Yeah, I've been waiting a long time for Sony to port this to PC. So that means I won't be subscribing to HBOMax again until I've played it. I've heard it is great and have been avoiding spoilers. All I know is post-apocalyptic, fungal zombies, and adult man escorting girl for some reason.

I'll give it this much, unlike TWD Joel and Ellie don't turn into complete idiots when the plot needs tension or drama.  It will be a nice change to see people making logical choices over the dumbest ones imaginable.

As much as I dumped on it, I have to give the game props for its writing and acting. Most video game dialogue is just awful. Characters wait their turn to spout exposition like the lines were recorded in separate places after being stripped of all context.

Dude: "I hear there's a band of rogues just South of the West gate."

Lady: "Oh no! My Geepaw took our puppy for a walk out there! If only someone not rooted to the spot could do something!"

beep boop...

When TLOU characters talk, they stumble on words, they breathe, they interrupt, they get in each other's faces, they "uh" and "um". And the characters walk around waving their hands and getting physical and shiat. It's really good, just not my bag, gamewise.

FTFA: "A professional reviewer was brought in play a beta version (the gaming industry equivalent of having a test screening). Like Romero, they found The Last of Us underwhelming. Why weren't there more "boss fights"? Why weren't the weapons more exotic, such as laser guns?"

Someday game developers are gonna realize that the kinds of people who are "professional game reviewers" are maybe not your best generic play testers. Might want to expand your demographics just a bit.

"Can you make a dramatic adaptation of a video game that doesn't disappoint like all the rest of them have?"

What's worth mentioning is that the video game adaptation failure is a Hollywood thing, not a universal truth. For example, the Japanese have been adapting video games for decades and produce some of the most stunning movies and TV shows. At this point, the movie/TV show is just one piece of the overall media output in a franchise. Video games spawn TV shows and movies, and vice versa.

What makes the Japanese movies and TV shows work is that they don't limit themselves to the original source work. Take the Final Fantasy movies. They took a game that already had established characters and backstory and then created something completely different. The video game tie-in helps because theydon't need to spend inordinate amounts of time on establishing characters and backstory. They take advantage of their audience having an intimate relationship to and knowledge of the characters, and spend the screen time building on that to make a great original movie.

Pretty much any Japanese video game has an anime, movie, or live action tie-in. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was an OK fighting game but ended up spawning five seasons of TV shows. I can't even keep track of the number of Fate spinoffs and remakes, both live and animated. Tales of Symphonia took a 16-bit game and made a vast expansive TV show with great characters and an amazing soundtrack.

I could go on and on, but the point is that the Japanese excel at the video game adaptation. It's pretty much a Hollywood problem that they have to make all their product so formulaic and safe that it destroys any chance of a good story.

The Last of Us was a game that desperately wanted to be a miniseries. Almost all the praise for the game was centered on the script, the exceptional voice and motion capture performances (which was rare in games, especially at the time of its original release), and the quality of the art and animation. The gameplay was mediocre at best (the water/ladder puzzles were annoying, the combat was passable but not great, and it had hands down the most pointless crafting system I've ever seen), and almost nothing about the way the story was delivered ever took advantage of the interactivity of the medium.

It would make a better miniseries than a game, but I'm not yet certain it will work as an ongoing series. We'll see.

You should try European TV. Their model isn't as... infinitely money-grubbing as ours. A lot more miniseries and more plot resolution overall.

What I find somewhat confusing is that I don't recall any sex scenes in the video game, or even intimacy scenes (like kissing), between the two lead characters or anyone else. So, not sure what that intimacy coordinator is for exactly, but maybe they write some sex into the TV show.

I wonder if they will include the DLC in the TV show? A bit of romance there.

The game was a great story. Game play was typical naughty dog puzzle - fight-puzzle - fight style.

According to IMDB she is 19 now, so yeah that'd gotta be a thing on set for young/old power dynamic, straight from HR playbook, 2023 edition.  I mean, she seems cool and all, but I think Pascal was linked to any number of primo actor hookups, including Lena Headley and Heidi Klum, so, you know, I think Bella gonna be pretty safe on set from him (Also cause he was linked romantically to Oscar Isaac lol, so yeah, doubly safe.)

Also they seem to like the trope of "what if a real person walked into the video game world" or more commonly and cheaply "what if a character similar to one in a game I heard about came to the real world and does some things from this script I had already written except I added a few lines from the character"

There's the one guy who insinuates he will rape Elly, in Colorado maybe? I just remember it's all snowy and it's the part where you get to play Elly.

Also the series might start with the DLC showing Elly and Mother Firefly's daughter kissing in the mall? Who knows but that's literally the only two examples I can think of.

That's how asexual the game is.

Although they had no problem with extreme violence and gore, so you won't see any creepy older-guy/teenage girl sex scenes, but you will see the every manner of killing.

/ Just to be clear, on a recent game play through, a friend's mom had to put her eyes over her kids eyes during some scenes. And for very good reason; this is NOT a kids show.

TLoU is one of the games of its kind that I've played through more than once. Beautiful to look at it, very well done story, and not terribly long. Loved TLoU2, but have only done one play through of it. The areas are much larger and the game itself is a good bit longer. I tried my damndest to explore every inch of it but still missed some bits and pieces, just haven't been able to get myself to go through that trip again, but it is a damn well done game.
