The Crazy Caucus must be heard!

Especially when they take a slim majority and divide it so their party loses.

The fact they didn't sort something out before the C-SPAN cameras came on is telling. The wackos want to emasculate McCarthy in public, they don't care about anything else.

I'm a Democrat with socialist tendencies, but this is more sickening, really, than it is amusing. Oh, I'm amused, don't get me wrong, but it's not a pleasant thing to follow.

In a functioning, two party republic, as the party in power you would want and expect your opposition to more or less have its act together under a sane leader if you have any hope of getting the basic work of government done.  What's to happen if there is some sort of national emergency, and your opposition can't get its act together to pass necessary legislation to meet it because a dozen members of their caucus would rather burn it all down than hand you a win?

So, what's the line on how many rounds this will go? Odds on 5 rounds or more? I'd say 3 to 1.

The first vote could just be a performance by the crazy side.  If he fails again, then that means something.  So I'm not taking anything from it yet.

The only positive I see is that this just foreshadows how ineffective the GOP will be at enacting their House agenda.

Less votes than Jeffries. That has to sting.

There's at least five who said they would never vote for McCarthy, and a bunch more sleepers who came in to throw him under the bus.

I'm not seeing him getting it on a second round.

What I really want to see is some of those crazies throwing a vote to Jeffries just to fark with the McCarthy crew.

Maybe this is just the natural evolution of Republican obstructionism. Can't get anything done in the House if there is effectively no House.

I'm not going to underestimate just how spiteful and stupid some of the ultra-right fascist weirdos that have taken root in the GOP are.

They're more than willing to let it all burn- and some of them won't get on board because changing their vote now would enrage their own base.

Yeah, that's not happening.  I could see some moderate (or simply sane) Republican voting that way, but I believe there are none of those remaining in the House after the start of the next term.  The few that kinda sorta qualified either retired/resigned or lost.

Whoever eventually wins will definitely be to the right of McCarthy, not the left.

Yep, these are the types of votes that are usually just a formality since everything has been sorted ahead of time with competent parties. This is really bad for them.

If we could get 5 Republicans to vote for a Democrat, we could have a Democrat as speaker over the GOP majority.

That would be delicious.

And I do think there's at least one or two that are batshiat crazy enough to vote for Jeffries just to send a message.

FTFA : "The results are:
Kevin McCarthy (Republican) - 203 votes
Hakeem Jeffries (Democrat) - 212
Andy Biggs (Republican) - 10
Others - 9
With 19 Republicans voting for people other than McCarthy, the House will need to vote again until someone gets an outright majority of the 434 members who can vote."
-
Clearly the House should unite around the second-place vote getter. Anything else would be pure obstruction.

I want to make it clear that I was agreeing with you here.  I don't think anything good can come of a minority party being this fractured, unless the majority has a commanding lead and doesn't need their votes for anything.

Here's the list, courtesy of Newsweek (no breakdown of which 10 voted for Biggs and which 9 voted for "Other"). I had thought they were down to five holdouts -- Biggs, Good, Gaetz and a couple of random backbenchers.

Andy Biggs of Arizona
Dan Bishop of North Carolina
Lauren Boebert of Colorado
Josh Breechen of Oklahoma
Michael Cloud of Texas
Andrew Clyde of Georgia
Eli Crane of Arizona
Matt Gaetz of Florida
Bob Good of Virginia
Paul Gosar of Arizona
Andy Harris of Maryland
Anna Paulina Luna of Florida
Mary Miller of Illinois
Ralph Norman of South Carolina
Andy Ogles of Tennessee
Scott Perry of Pennsylvania
Matt Rosendale of Montana
Chip Roy of Texas
Keith Self of Texas

I'm exactly opposite. A fractured GOP means there's factions you can court- they're in disarray.

They're ripe for cutting a few packs from the herd, and the further this goes, the better.

As it stands today (less than 435 members there?) Jeffries needs just 6 votes.

/ of course the Anti-Qevins are pretty much die-hard Ultra-MAGA's, so that ain't happening.

I should say, that's a fair point, assuming the democrats are 100% united.  They can't afford even a handful of hold-outs or stragglers.
