Erdogan is propped up by the army and rich people. The Rich people have accumulated a lot of their wealth through debt financing which is why he keeps cutting the interest rate. Lowering interest rates in a high inflation environment is basically full-on insane and will kill the working class.

At this point the only option the people have is removal by force... which they did try before but were thwarted.

He's killing his own people with these economic policies and yet we still treat him like an ally, both us and Europe.

That doesn't even get into how he treats the Kurds and his actions in Syria.

Probably because of what NewportBarGuy said.  I have heard Erdogan put it in Islamist terms - that usury is not allowed in the Koran.  Classic Erdogan - just fall back on religion when it suits your bad ideas.

Great episode of Anthony Bourdain when he went there... He was having a really good discussion with a guy about Erdogan. Just biting at the edges of how truly terrible he was without causing too much trouble while inside the country.
