Mrs. Facue's ex threatened us and even called my parents to threaten us.  His brothers knew he was being an asshole and the police intervened and he was calmed down for a bit.  Visitations with the kids were always a bit dicey since I was driving what used to be his car but we survived.  That was about 30 years ago.  He eventually died from doing too much blow in his bedroom back at his parents house.  Good times, good times.

Yes. You should have stuck it out, I'm sure he means the best for both of you.

CSB. A long time ago I was hanging out with some friends around a camp fire, having a campfire chat and the topic swung around to what you're looking for in a potential mate. There was this one girl who I thought was kind of a dumb biatch who came up with this gem.  "I want a guy who will fight for me, who would rob a bank for me." My immediate response was " You're stupid. If he'll fight someone else for you then he'll fight you. That's recipe for abuse." "What? Of course not, he would love me too much." Actual words out of her mouth.
Well, she kind of fell out of our circle of friends for a few years with a few updates now and then from the one guy who kind of had a crush on her and of course things went as you expected. 'oh, her boyfriend is in prison for a few years.' 'Yeah, she was dating this guy who was abusive.' 'Her ex got out of prison and they're back together.' and so on.
About 15 years later she shows back up again. She looks like she's had a hard life and she's single. Guy who had a crush on her wants to date her. I tell him "don't do it, she's a mess, you'll be sorry." but he's not listening, actually kind of avoiding me for a while. Of course he went on some dates but eventually came to his senses.

He was actually man enough to come and tell me that I was right.

If she'd just waited a couple more weeks that asshole would have been caught and jailed by the pizza boxes in one of his videos where he sexually harassed a teenager.

Oooh. I've seen one of these go south with all three people dead, so I can understand why the lady is pausing.

There isn't one good answer.

"Eventually he became so nasty, I was scared and felt I had no option but to involve the police.
Sadly, I felt I didn't have a choice and so finished with my new man."

Can't speak for your relationship-ending, but your story-telling could use some work.

I would find it difficult to be in a relationship where "Oh, it says on the news that my ex just broke out of prison and stole a Harley," is something she tells me when I'm in the shower.

I've seen the new couple end up dead, with the ex then sent to prison. No one who knew him would have ever guessed he would have done that These cases are exceptions, though. Some people just can't let go, ever.
