Cannibal Holocaust wasn't even that gory, especially compared to later Italian cannibal films.  The controversy had more to do with how it was presented as a found footage movie.

They left out how he made the actors sign contracts agreeing to disappear for a year to make people think it really happened. They were getting ready to throw him in the clink for making a snuff film until he agreed to get everyone to show up live on some talk show to prove they actually lived through it.

It seemed real enough to the Italian authorities that he was arrested for it.

As a naval officer I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy is a haven for cannibalism. It is well known that we now have the problem relatively under control, and that it is the RAF who now suffer the largest casualties in this area. And what do you think the Argylls ate in Aden. Arabs?

Never saw cannibal  Holocaust, been meaning to. House At The Edge Of The Park, though, is one of the most intense viewing experiences I've had. One of those movies that compels you to shower after. Dark and nasty, with David Hess outdoing his Last House performance. The man steals the show as you know he can.
