Well there's your problem right there.

A fundamental misunderstanding of supply and demand.

My bonus is tied to large scale corporate goals that I have zero control over. The one goal I have any contribution to assumes 100% plant uptime to hit our production goals. It is designed to fail. (work in commercial pharma production)
It farking sucks

As much as I hate wall street bonus babies I feel their pain because you know the execs will get theirs no matter what.

A few will move around, just like any other year.

A bunch of them might "quit" and move to competing firms. Does that count?

Well, they are the ones throwing a tantrum over interest rates / possible recession. The amount of money lost from said tantrum is probably higher than any loss from the recession will be.

Don't like that reason? Think stocks were overinflated and are just returning to a more sane valuation now? Well, they were the ones who hyped things up. In either case, they don't deserve bonuses.

If they are all cutting bonuses it's going to come down to higher pay and less bonuses.

Funny how "nobody wants to work" won't be said of these entitled assholes if they do quit.

Comes down to negotiating your next bonus in the job offer.

A risky plan, yes. You might overachieve. But, a solidly reliable plan

Bankers is a pretty wide term...I know everyone hears Wall Street and thinks 'super rich people' but the majority of workers at these places are just regular office folks.

The median salary for a "banker" in the US is about $65k and according to some random website workers 'on wall street' are $95k...but that $95k is going to be in a high COL area.

They aren't poor enough for people to feel bad for them...but that doesn't mean they aren't being exploited. Laws around salary workers were designed for the fancy folks running the company and really shouldn't apply to regular working folks. Businesses shouldn't be able to say 'Work for us and we will pay you $90k plus anywhere from $0 to $45k as a bonus, and the bonus is entirely up to us'

Having said that, there are bigger issues so I can't really blame anyone for not caring.

Daw poor babies, they might only receive one yearly earning of the lower class rather than two! Surely many tears will be shed over them.

A friend of the family got a $200k bonus his second year out of college. Even if it drops 50%, he'll make more with just his bonus at the age of 25 than most American families make in a year.

If you speak to a banker 1 on 1, they will tell you they like higher rates.

You can't make any money lending at 3% because nobody wants to deposit in your bank at 1%.

Be careful who you listen to.

bingethinker: Poor babies. Most years, my Christmas bonus is that I'll still have a job in January.

I've been with my company for years and I get a hundred bucks. So does the kid that got hired a month before Christmas. Company spends a bunch of money on the Christmas party instead, like $300/employee.

I'd rather have $400 than $100 plus a few hours at a party, even if the party includes a couple free drinks and dinner and a backpack with the company logo.

So how much do these bankers get for their yearly bonus?

$500k-$5mil. It is most of their income (unsurprisingly). They don't need anybody's sympathy. Except for the C-Suite of their company, who will naturally receive their $10mil-$40mil comp packages approved by the board, regardless of company fiscal health.
