You know how people tend to look back at terrible politicians and remember them as more cuddly than they actually were (see:  George W. Bush)?  What if that happens with climate, man.  What if in the future we'll all be underground wearing gas masks and will be like "aw, remember when we were above ground and just on fire and getting hit with hurricanes and tornadoes?  I miss that."

I've already seen a number of essays by climate scientists and reporters saying essentially that (not the part about living underground with gas masks).  Basically, stuff like "As hot as this year was, it's likely to be the coolest anyone will be able to remember in the future."
