You don't hire mercenaries for front line combat. They're too unreliable.
You hire mercenaries to commit war crimes.

Instead of Methodists let them send Russian Orthodox clergy, all the way up to and including the archbishop. If they want the claimed birthplace of their denomination so badly, let them fight for it.

No, it's to make them think they roll into battle with Ride of the Valkyries blaring over the radio.

I am sincerely surprised the Irish haven't show up.  Tell them Zelensky is English, and the Russians couldn't keep them out.

No, it's named after Hitler's favorite composer.

It's an allusion to the NAZI infatuation with Wagner (The composer) and the "Aryan Mythos" around
his music and opera..The Wagner Group is essentially run by and composed of fascists.
The excuse of "de-NAZIfication" used as an excuse to invade Ukraine was like 3 jokes in one..
The Ukrainian NAZI's were Russians, a lot of them were sent by Russia to Ukraine to foment rebellion,
and then used as scapegoats later..

I wonder why Putin hasn't contracted Erik Prince and Academi (formerly known as Blackwater) to provide "security" for his troops on the frontline.  From what I've read, they have a proven record of doing whatever is necessary to quell local populations and have a team of lawyers and politicians capable of justifying any actions taken against an "opposing" force.  Putin would also have access to US Intelligence, the latest in western weaponry, and an ability to shape western attitudes through Fox News, OAN, GOP PACs, etc.

I think Erik prince is a bit worried about getting "accidentally killed in combat due to a regrettable friendly fire incident".
A lot of people would rest easy if that dude wasn't around anymore.

That article is terrifying.  Just as in the United States the far-right in Russia can only seem to double-down.  The only way this ends well is if average Russians have had enough and make leadership changes.

Wait, are you sure Prince would actually be in combat himself?  Seems unlikely.

Buggery is like, the funniest word ever. And so flexible. It's England's greatest contribution to Western Culture.

Many convicts are believed to have joined Wagner - though there are no precise numbers. In return they have been told they'll get paid and have their sentences commuted after serving six months on the front line.

Yeah, and the Empire gave great retirement benefits to TIE fighter pilots.
