Fark the Yankees

Big talk from the team that first broke the 100 and 200 million dollar payroll.  If Ohtani was dangled in front of Hal he'd mortgage the stadium to sign him.

is THAT your takeaway, subby?

This doesn't at all read like professional jealousy of Cohen and the Mets or anything like that, but more the general (collective) owners' stance that contracts and payrolls in general are getting too high (which is probably even more eyeroll-worthy).

The fact that it comes from Hal Steinbrenner makes subby's takeaway legit.

except that Hal's been downright thrifty compared to the Dodgers, the Mets, the Angels in his tenure

His father sure wasn't. It's nice the Mets act like the NYC team they are though I'd be happier if Steve invested in the farm system. The '80s Mets and '90s Yankees had minor league players to grow or trade for missing pieces.

THAT I won't dispute. I just roll my eyes at people making assumptions based on stuff that hasn't been true for a decade and a half.
