That article is hilarious.

While some people see Paris as the new Marilyn Monroe (not the young vibrant version of Marilyn who married a sports legend, but the slightly older, no-longer-alive corpse version)...
2004-12-18 06:03:25 PM
Apparently the only funny jokes at for the majority of farkers, are those at the expense of the president or his constituents. Kind of sad when you can't even laugh at yourself. Get a sense of humor you morans..
2004-12-18 06:03:26 PM
I've also noticed in other places, like for instance, the fark comment baords, that there seems to be a lot of people obsessed with Canada. And not in a healthy way either.

You should have been here on election night - there were a lot of canadians obsessed with the US. And not in a healthy way either.

Hell, they're STILL obsessed now that I think about it.
2004-12-18 06:04:02 PM
No PETA? Can we lump them in somewhere?
2004-12-18 06:04:10 PM
What about that mutant that I see every 10 minutes on TV selling some sort of abdominal exerciser? He was freaky looking enough to start with, then he went blonde. Someone has to do something! Think of the children!
2004-12-18 06:05:21 PM

You misunderstand me, either that or I've misrepresented myself, I don't mind people trashing Canada. It doesn't bother me. I think people are welcome to their opinions, I just think their obsession isn't healthy.

I'm not sure what Canadians you are talking about, but I'm not particularly embarrassed by any that I can think of. Not even Celive Dion, but that's possibly only because I feel that she's a pretty good singer in French.
2004-12-18 06:07:37 PM
it's any wonder he hasn't learned that slackers won't come out to vote no matter how many free socks and ramen noodles you offer them.

Canada is turning into one farked up place.

mikaelhg: The sad thing about this list is that many Europeans reading through it seriously consider it factually and politically skewed and unfair because of the horribly skewed news you people get.

Nice holier-than-thou superiority complex. It's amazing to me that the same Europeans who post stupid crap like that can't figure out why Americans don't like their attitude.

/reads the Guardian, Le Monde, the Independent etc daily and just doesn't agree.

doctor wu

You're right- I think Bill Maher belonged in a modified #23 (Middle-Aged Talk Show Hosts with Horrifying Sexual Proclivities). Maher's not as liberal as he'd like to think, anyway.

You obviously didn't rtfa. Never said hybrids suck. They simply said people that are in your face witht hem are a pain in the ass.
2004-12-18 06:18:50 PM

Hmmm... Ok, I read the article, although with a complete lack of references I'm going to have to go on faith that any of that is true.

However, I was familiar with one of the cases, that of the public teacher who told his students that the holocaust wasn't real. And, uh, he's wrong. I don't think he should be allowed to tell his students that. Are you suggesting that Americans focus on Canadians is based off of our desire to protect our citizens from hate crimes? That's seems a little strange, but I'll have to accept that as a different cultural viewpoint I guess.

As for the other cases, well, we don't have this idea of freedom of speech in this country. We can't just say whatever we want, and due to our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we aren't allowed to discriminate against people (as in the cases cited about anti-homosexual activists who try to base their actions on some kind of perverse view of religious freedom, as if religion allows one to bypass the Charter of Rights and Freedoms).
2004-12-18 06:22:48 PM

Eh, I'm not a fan of her English songs, I think the English language isn't really appropriate for that singing style (although sadly Anglophones seem to keep trying it). Which is why I spoke of her French songs. Although Celine Dion is an interesting case because while we are a very small country in terms of population, it does seem like we export a lot more cultural icons (whether actors or singers) than we import. Maybe that explains the obsession.

If weaver and captain are the only 2 to post, this will definitley become a canada vs. us flame war.
2004-12-18 06:34:20 PM
Hey way to go Bob, blaming the "Iraqi Insurgents" (ooh, nice hook too - "Ethnic Cleansing" for them!) for messing up Dumbya's pretty, neat, oh-so-divinely-inspired little invasion. Couldn't find room for any single member of the administration in your little list, eh? Guess the new No-Accountability Society has another champion...
2004-12-18 06:40:58 PM
canada vs. us flame war.

Should now be promoted to number one.

A lot of us don't live anywhere near Canada and could care less.
2004-12-18 06:42:19 PM
OMFG...that was the funniest thing i've heard in a while...kept me in laughing word to describe everything that guy mentioned...BURN!!!!!!

2004-12-18 06:45:07 PM
As for the other cases, well, we don't have this idea of freedom of speech in this country.

And that's why we tend to look askance at Canada. Sure, they *look* sane at first glance but any country that suppresses speech 'for the common good' is a country that bears watching.

Because you just never know, do you?
2004-12-18 06:46:15 PM
"It's hard to decide who's worse: the arrogant, environmentally-dangerous conservatives bent on continuing an unwinnable war and making the world hate us, or the sore losers who do nothing but complain, and instead of trying to share a few toys in the sandbox, they jump right out and run for momma's apron."

I'm not quite catching that last analogy, but I agree with the sentiment.
2004-12-18 06:46:33 PM
That was surprisingly good considering it was a humor link on Fark.
2004-12-18 06:49:59 PM
Thank you very much. Canada is proud to be number12. A few years ago Canada was almost insignificant.
2004-12-18 06:53:45 PM
I always knew that America loved William Hung because it gave America the chance to laugh at a "retarded" person without really laughing at a retarded person. We're so passive P.C.

How do you leave off talking head lawyers on TV offering their opinions on the celebrity case-du jour? Gloria Allred is the biggest of the attention whores.
2004-12-18 06:58:48 PM

Thanks for hockey, Bryan Adams, and your chief export: a complete and total lack of a sense of humor.

Wait a minute. There's no hockey this year, and Bryan Adams hasn't touched greatness since the song "Run to You."

So really, thanks for not having a sense of humor.

12. Canada

Uh, I'm sure this isn't representative of all Canadians, but when did you guys lose your cultural identity, deciding instead to base it on some overwhleming desire to compare yourselves non-stop to America? Can't a day go by without some Canadian trashing America? Do you guys have so little self-identity that you have to point out every day that you aren't Americans?

It's really kinda sad.

(See how it fits?)

"His greatest post-election achievement? The day when Moore can bend over in the shower and see his penis."

2004-12-18 07:04:02 PM

Sorry. I don't. Isn't this an article where some guy trashes Canada? This isn't an article where some Canadian trashes the US. So I fail to see how what you said fits.
2004-12-18 07:05:28 PM
i have a sense of humor...thats why i left Yanks...then again in canada's has pretty much sucked all the humor outta canada and replaced it with poutine......

//always wanted to do this
///can now see why it annoys

Bryan Adams hasn't touched greatness since the song "Run to You."

so true, but do the Americans really love us Brits more than Canadians?

15. Inbred Americans Farking up Everything in Iraq

No problem with having Lynndie England on the list, but hey, while we are at it, let's make fun of her home state too! Two of dem birds with one dem der stone! LOL!!!11!one!

He just wanted to be left alone to bang J-Lo and Jennifer Garner both, very very good choices, we might add.

OK, J-Lo was not a good choice. If anything, she should be on the list. This was the biggest mistake of the list. The rest was pretty good.
2004-12-18 07:37:24 PM
Screw you too

- It's not that cold at the moment. No polar bears roam the streets, penguins don't own the parks

- We were left off the 9/11 thank you list. WTF? I think that calls for a grudge.

- The member of parliment in question who was fired said what most Canadians are thinking. Only half your own country wanted to go to war. Where's the weapons of mass destruction George?

- If Canada should apologize for Celine, shouldn't the US apologize for Clay Aiken, Nick and Jessica, The View, William Hung, dumbass reality shows, the overexposed boob, etc.

- I guess there are more hockey fans south of the border than I thought. So much for unique Canada.

- What the hell do you get in return? Must I name all the Canadian celebrities that most Americans don't even know are Canadian?
2004-12-18 07:44:26 PM
This list gets a tag of obvious/pandering to the cool® (tie).
2004-12-18 07:52:02 PM
Lets see......

25: Dont watch this tripe, so I have no clue who these people are... or care.

24: Dont know any personally. Anything on the road that continues to make SUV drivers look silly is a good thing though. Please exclude those who actually have a legitimate reason for owning an SUV. All 3 of you.

23: Never watched him, can't comment.

22: See 23

21: Who? See 22/23

20: Not familiar with this, but who cares what stars "practice" ? (and no, that is not where my nick comes from)

19: Anyone who got offended by this... you have issues.

18: I'll agree, but I see/pass idiots all the time driving sans cell phone, and they still aren't paying attention,

17: Anything to make basketball interesting is a GOOD thing.

16: Can't garnish much care.

15: Funny commentary.

14: Good... this should be top 10. Thankfully, a lot of people don't need to catch you lipsyncing to know how badly you suck. Newsflash: "genuine" acts.. you know, the ones who actually deserve the noteriety that has been given to you for some reason, don't lipsync, or need to. And that will never ever change. Thanks.

13: Funny commentary. Not a baseball fan, so I don't have much of an opinion on this one.

12: Its good to know that when your own country is an embarassment, the option to make stupid jokes about your northern neighbors will rear its head. Canada is a pretty cool place....if you say otherwise without having visited it yourself, then your opinion is irrelevant.

11: Never heard his "music".

10: Who?

09: Valid, but a great attention diverting issue.

08: Watched this once inadvertently. Not fun. Why do people care about this?

07: Most overrated actor ever.

06: Humorous.. what do you expect though? We look an awful lot like invaders... umm oops, I meant occupiers. Of course there is resistance. You wouldn't do the same?

05: Completely uninteresting... all 3 are way overrated. "A sex tape!!!" ooooh.. who cares? Like sex is some uncommon act.. and there is plenty of better porn available.

4: I agree

3: Again... taking the political advice of someone who makes WAAAAY more money than you is a bad thing. You may arrive at the same conclusion, but I'd wager that it's not for the same reasons. Sort of like conclusing that outsourcing is great for "everyone", because the CEO of a corporation said so *cough*.

2: Probably should have been higher on this list. Sure, he can be annoying when trying to connect some of the dots he does, but anyone who slammed F911 without seeing it, much like the Canada statement, has no basis for arguement.

1: Who?
2004-12-18 08:01:16 PM
Thanks for hockey, Bryan Adams, and your chief export: a complete and total lack of a sense of humor.

Let me point out several motion pictures that seem an endless source of humourous quotes and cultural references for FARK:

Ghostbusters (Cats & dogs living together..)
Animal House (Double Secret Probation...)
Porky's (Is Mike Hunt here? Has anyone seen Mike Hunt...)

Yes, maybe set in the US, but chockfull of Funny Canadians!
2004-12-18 08:06:14 PM
William Hung? who cares? BFA probably gave him his first mention in any medium since 4 months or so,

I did, however, love this bit about Paris Hilton:
we, at BFA, see her for what she truly is: a savvy, no-nonsense business woman in the same vein as Martha Stewart. Both of whom will most likely spend time on all fours this year.
2004-12-18 08:15:55 PM
#24 could be simplified to:
"Idiots who think I care what they drive".

Here are a list of hybrid drivers: / Here are a list of well known SUV drivers:

By my count, that's 3 douchbags, 3 irritants, and 4 "Meh".
Which list was supposed to be the cool one?
2004-12-18 08:20:19 PM
Bill Maher is a libertarian, not a liberal.

Is William Hung retarded? I always thought he had the classic "sheltered Oriental-american with bad teeth because his parents spent the dental check up money on faux jade Buddhas and SAT prep courses" facies.

Correct me if I'm wrong
2004-12-18 08:22:28 PM
This same website was posted on Fark last year, except it was even gayer.
2004-12-18 08:27:19 PM
The two most annoying people of 2004 have by far been Britney Spears(plus Kevin Federline) and Paris Hilton. I can't believe Britney didn't make the list.
2004-12-18 08:32:40 PM
kab you try to sound like your smart with your thoughts on each topic, but how do you not know who some of the people are? Seriously you must have read at least a newspaper or two to have the intelligence to make some of the comments you made. Trying to be cool and say you don't know who thoes people are makes you sound stupid. We all know you know who they are, quit trying to put yourself above the rest of us.

/rant o' the day
2004-12-18 08:40:12 PM
I just love when American arrogance overshadows reality. I see very few Americans that aren't dillusional. There are more reasons than I or any other Canadian could mention as to why "the whole world" hates America. Your capitalistic, inbred attitude is why most of you have to "pretend" to be Canadians when you leave your world for the real one. I can see why you "hated" the Canadians that looked after your relatives on Sept 11 while your "no-mind" prez shined as an example of what happens when your arrogance overshadows your reality.

Just c'mon up to my igloo and spout your attitude. I'm sure a few moose and beavers would set you straight.
2004-12-18 08:40:20 PM
My own personal belief is that those Americans who have jumped on the "Blame Canada" bandwagon are just in denial... they can't admit to themselves that 49% of Americans disagree strongly with Bush and the war, so they turn to bashing a foreign country.

Kind of the same thing with the whole "Liberal" labeling thing... they have to paint them as almost a separate species, as horrible reprehensible individuals because again, in their denial and in their minds, no reasonable person can ever disagree with them.

Some would call that being closed minded...
2004-12-18 08:43:07 PM
What you Americans don't realize is that Canada invaded and colonized your country years ago. All your comedians, rock stars, senior starship officers, hockey players and anchor men belong to us, and they're just waiting for the code word to rise up and liberate you from your evil, gun-toting religious oppressors.

On an unrelated note, "Poutine".

I repeat... "Poutine"! NOW!

/serious flame-bait!
(come on guys, lighten up, it's just a stupid article!)
