The right's obsession with the Chicago is so damn ridiculous.   Look, I'm glad corruption is caught anywhere it's found, but I really don't keep track of county level politics nation wide.

And cherry picking one incidence because it tickles your wing nuts is farking stupid.

Two Republican politicians were recently arrested in Florida, and another money guy closely associated with Marco Rubio offed himself after being exposed for what he is, so in short there are bad people all over the place committing crimes and justice is coming for them.

Republicans under Trump: "Free PPP money for every grifter with web access! MAGA!"

Republicans under Biden: "No money for broke college students! MAGAGA!"

That's fake news and a strawman argument when you really should concentrate on the article at hand about how leftist controlled hell holes like Chicago are the most crime ridden locations in the 2000 years of mankind

PPP may have been well intentioned (well, the public politispeak made it sound that way), but with zero oversight it was begging to become a huge fraud program.
Go after the crooks. All of them. Regardless of party affiliation. If they didn't use the funds to keep their employees solvent, then they were stealing from the rest of us.

Illinois is not even in the top half of states by corruption. They get overrepresented in the watchdog media because unlike most of the good-ol-boy states in the south, they actually enforce their laws.

They're one of the few states that actually follow through with imprisoning corrupt officials.

Don't forget that Conservatives, by their very nature, live in the past. Chicago elections were pretty corrupt, decades ago.

Chicago used to have a serious Democratic patronage army under Richard J. Daley. He wielded his Clout like a club to keep Chicago Democrat and to be a kingmaker on the national stage of Party Primaries.

You can travel the world and tell people you're from Chicago, and the first reaction you are likely to get is Al Capone, accompanied by Tommy Gun motions. But for old Republican politicians, the real Chicago Boogyman was Richard J. Daly.

If you want to see real corruption, small town and rural America is due some intense scrutiny.

Exactly why the Derp State wants to outsource the majority of government operations to private corporations.  So, they can avoid transparency.  Hiding their fraud behind shell companies and trade secrecy.  Instead of being subject to public records request.  Not to mention forced arbitration.

hard to believe a trump program was shiat-designed and free money for those able to get it because if it was then Republicans would be screaming about the waste fraud and abuse and talkin' about how we are mortgaging our grandchildren's future and the nation's credit card limit and oh god I think I just died

In the heart of the covid crisis, my view was to be liberal in giving out the financial aid as much as possible, to give the economy the stimulus it needed as well as to help everyday people just make it and not go bankrupt. I expected some fraud but felt that it was more important to get the money out and working, and that the crooks could get hunted down later.

I still think that was the right choice, but now the thieves need very public and very painful consequences.

Do you know what real corruption is?

It's when you don't prosecute dirty officials.

I have a joke with one of my friends that Illinois has a little known law that says that every other Governor has to go to prison.

I think it's reasonable for the "Chicago Sun-Times" to do an article about corruption in Chicago.

Gurl, Chicago residents are obsessed with Chicago corruption as well. The only people who tend to shy away from acknowledging it are Democratic politicians.

FOr over ten years I owned cab garages and gas stations in Chicago and other cities in In and Mi. I saw a lot of crap and dealt with some corrupt inspectors but I never spoke to an Alderman unless my lawyer was with me.  No matter who it was. My family has done business there since my Granpa Started Checker Cab and Yellow

It seems this is the opposite of government corruption. Individual employees were jumping on the PPP fraud wagon, and what's happening now is the government leadership is actually taking steps to investigate it.
