Apparently it's not just American transit agencies that fail at the whole transit thing.

2022-12-09 8:52:53 PM
The report says the current approved budget is $12.82 billion, up from $12.24 billion in 2019. It also shows Crosslinx has more than $260 million in outstanding claims against Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario.

So it looks like there's a change order pending.

Maybe they should have taken notes from Jerry Brown and the California high speed rail. It's completely finished and has already paid for itself.

We moved out of Toronto as it was starting construction. I've driven down Eglinton a few times since and it's weird.

That's still roughly 1.2 or so kilometers per year and it still might not be fully complete by next March.  After watching the shiatshow that is Ottawas LRT I flat out guarantee that project was getting skimmed like a mob casino.

Eglinton spans pretty much the entire width of the city about halfway uptown.  Prior to the construction it was always a mess of busses and traffic.  IF they ever get this extension done and out to the airport it will be a very convenient addition to the TTC's subway system and will definitely take a ton of traffic off Eglinton Avenue.

IF.

/not Torontonian anymore

See, they solved that problem by making sure the east line only works half the time so nobody actually knows if it's fully complete.  Also.

That's what happens if the contractor doesn't get paid.

This happened at Maryland Transit, the contractor walked off the job.

When the NHL Futures came out, and the Leafs were the favorite, I asked our provider if the lines were right.

"The Maple Leafs are the favorite?  The same Maple Leafs that haven't won the Cup since '67?  Those Maple Leafs?  They're the favorites?"

They are no longer the favorite...

Dude, it might even go all the way to Palmdale before your lifetime!

What a colossal waste of money. If it went from LA to Vegas that might be a different story. But no one is commuting from LA to Palmdale to Bakersfield to Visalia to Fresno to Merced to Stockton on a daily basis. And it's not even HSR.

Of course they are having the defective wheels replaced not under warranty but at a cost (with brakes) of $7.4 million.

C'mon man, there is at least one state in the American South that built underground commuter rail faster than this through farking granite. Something is wrong. The contractors or politicians are possibly farking up or outright stealing from the project. Later, this rail line will be pointed to as an example of why commuter rail is a bad idea. It's bleeped up and it's not okay.

Canadian MAGA-lites.  You'll find they're mostly older, white, religious and racist.  But Canadian racist, it's still almost pure dogwhistle, you have to really listen to catch them saying something blatant.  There are still a few pickups with giant Canadian flags mounted to the hitch and "Fark Trudeau" decals on the windows driving around.

Because they (mostly) still know how to use their 'inside voice', they haven't lost the center vote.  They're the reason we have doctors begging us to mask up right now and a government that says, "naw, totes your choice".

Right: the issue is not whether anyone should try to stop outrageous thieving from a passenger transit project. The issue is whether anyone needs transit to begin with. We have a right to drive for an hour to travel 15 miles! We have a right to breathe car exhaust! Why is our freedom under threat? What about liberty?!?

Remains to be seen but the Brightline might actually start construction. Been hearing this for 30 years though.

Not surprising outsourcing a public project to private corporations results in failure.
