Wawa is better for coffee and breakfast, but generally Sheetz is better.

Wawa has better food and coffee, better customer service, pays their employees well, and offers them a lot of opportunity for advancement. Stores are clean and modern (renovated every few years)...

Other than that though, Sheetz.....always kinda smells like old fryer oil.

I spent high school working for Wawa, including shifts at two of the three busiest stores in the company. It was remarkably well-run. Centralized training locations, regional meetings that included all employees instead of just management, and reasonable pay. My actual store manager was pretty terrible, but as a company, it was an excellent place to work as a student.

Also, I absolutely loved the hash browns and soft pretzels there.

I'd like to see Wawa move into NY (specifically upstate), but it looks like they know this is Stewart's country. I like Stewie's just fine but Wawa runs a tight ship from what I've seen, and when companies compete it's the customers that win.

I used to enjoy Sheetz and their Shmuffins in NE PA 10+ years ago. Now, the Sheetz I've run into on road trips over the last several years seem so filthy and poorly run. The coffee is nasty too. So I'm excited to see Wawa move to the Midwest.

I'm ready for Wawa, but I'll never be ready for Hoosiers, whatever the hell those are.

Wawa's cookies suck but their sandwiches are pretty good. They used to have better sandwich choices.

I also shouldn't have to use Google to find what the difference is between their three different types of shakes. It's okay to say what things are when constructing a menu.

I'm more familiar with Wawa from work trips to Florida, but I occasionally go to NC and have been to a couple of Sheetz. Racetrac has upped their store game to compete with QT and Wawa. And now Buc-ee's is moving into Florida and Georgia, though their stores are really too big for my tastes.

Dear Wawa,

Please consider invading New England.

Tedeschi's got bought by 7-11 and basically killed.  Cumby's doesn't have freshly made food.  Neither does Alltown.  Seriously, you'd take over.

Wawa in Kentucky as well.
And we have two Buc-ee's  opening next year.

It looks like they're preparing to set up a flanking manoeuvre to hit Sheetz from the west.

Wawa thrives on convenience. The food is completely mediocre and unreliable. But if you need to fill up the tank and grab a bite to eat at the same time then it's fine. Or if it's the only place open at 3am.

A coworker of mine would come out claws-first in defense of your statement.

I don't really see the difference.

For whatever reason none of them are available near me and it's weird because I'm like smack dab in the middle of a place you'd want to stop at whether you're going south or north.

I don't care which place is better. Indiana doesn't even deserve the loser here.

Here in KY, we don't like Louisville, because it's basically Indiana.

well, we *are* talking about competing chains of convenience stores, so theres that

/i for one cant believe they dont have valet parking and concierge service//i mean really, if you cant keep up standards that whats the point?///seriously, what is even the point?

although... here in nc the sheetzes used to be a lot better than they currently are. i speculate that the company has grown itself too fast to keep the quality up. wawa is just on the i-95 corridor i think.

Buccees would be welcome further east.  I want BBQ and fudge at my convenience store.

In contrast, the southern two-thirds of Indiana should be known as Northern Kentucky

I'd love to see a Wawa just across the NJ border in Mahwah. It would be the Mahwah Wawa.

It's an Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwa/Chippewa ) word for "wild goose".

I'll bet there are other Anishinaabemowin words that sound better.

Wawa used to bake their own bread and serve fresh cut deli meat and cheese. They changed all that and turned into just a gas station. I know people that love their coffee. I can only attest to their hot chocolate, I'm not a hot coffee drinker.

Of course they're categorized as convenience stores, but the way people talk about them has elevated them to something beyond that (specifically with Wawa, living in the heart of Wawa country).

They originally didn't make their own bread, and carried Amoroso rolls. Now they "fresh bake" them in store (par bake elsewhere then finish in store). But yeah, it's been a long time since they fresh cut the deli meats and even offered lunch meat orders. It was around then they also introduced the touch screen ordering which somehow made quality control even worse.
