Pretty sure Elton's been spreading misinformation for decades. For example, playing sad songs doesn't help depression.

"misinformation is now being used . . ."

Now? It has been used for at least the last 10+ years, if not more.  Twitter was never a place to get reliable information.  It's just "cool" to make this kind of post/statement at this particular moment.

Limbaugh would often say stuff like (to a black woman caller): "Why don't you take the bone out of your nose and listen to me for a second?"

I'm glad Elton John thinks selling out other races for charity makes sense. The man probably makes more in royalties off any single one of his hiats than the birthday party payout.

It's just disgusting.

It depends on who you follow. If you follow actual experts, Twitter is a very good place to get info. Follow cool kids and celebrities and it sucks. Follow Nazis and flat earthers and it sucks and blows.

That's why politicians have become so adept at hiding lies within partial truths.  The casual listener, aka low information voter, will accept what they deem as truth and swallow any lies that come along with it.

Blatant misinformation isn't a threat to most because it's easy to spot.  Subtle misinformation that plays on our emotions is far more difficult to spot.

Most people will believe a complex lie before they'll accept a simple truth.

Musk decided that the nazi camel was welcome to warm up in the tent.

And I'm not sure why you bring up the slippery slope. Pointing to what already happened is not a slippery slope.

The GOP has been actively platforming and praising white supremacists and anti-semites for years. Musk just made platforming them a priority.

When the leader of the KKK feels comfortable running under any party's banner, the camel is well and truly already in the tent.
