Funny how Musk needs to outsource car production to China when VW and Toyota can turn a profit building them in the United States.

Eh, we've seen the big tech companies, including social media, bend to China's authoritarian preferences. This may well have happened without Musk (if Twitter planned to continue business in China anyway)

My understanding was that Teslas built in China are just for the Chinese market, mainly to get around tariffs.

Yes one way to get around tariffs is to not import the thing you're selling.

Seriously. I ended up in a contentious debate with someone on Facebook over the fact that people on YouTube biatching about YouTube's policies on YouTube only gives more money to YouTube via ads and gives them no impetus to change.

This was the goal all along. Why does everyone think the Saudi's and Qatar are Twitter's top investors? All of Musk's antics are just a distraction from what's happening internationally. At best Musk is a useful idiot that's easily manipulated, at worst they have kompromat on Elon and he's been compromised.

Honestly...? I'm willing to settle on Elon Musk just being an idiot. Far too often, we tend to assign this machiavellian genius to the people in charge, when really, it's blatantly obvious that the emperor has no clothes.

That being said, I have no doubt that oppressive regimes jump aboard as Elon's investors because this was his literal stated goal.

It's one of those things where, despite the fact that Twitter is going down in flames, there's not a whole lot to replace it. As much as somebody like me would like to jump ship, where the fark would I go. Gab?

Until Mastodon becomes more user friendly, I'm just going to stay on Twitter and make sure it stays unprofitable.

I mean, sometimes Twitter is the only place to find or post something. But just for an experiment, I went and found the first Twitter link on the main page. It's a story about a mall explosion/fire in Russia. Then I googled it, and there's absolutely no shortage whatsoever of outlets covering that, some of which seem to have video of it.

I highly doubt Musk is worried about profits from Twitter.  This has become an ego thing for him.  He shares a trait with Trump that he would have the world go down in flames than ever admit fault or wrong.

To remedy this, all we have to do is stop giving them a platform.  Easier said than done, especially as page clicks with media sources drive decisions.

Without The Apprentice, Trump would have faded into obscurity.  In regards to Elon (and actually Trump falls into this as well), he has not allowed himself to be in a situation where someone can b*tchslap them and call them the NeinEnFuhrers, to coin a phrase, that they are.

Oh you know what? Yeah, posting links to stories DOES have a viable alternative. Sorry, I wasn't thinking of that when I posted.

I'd have no doubt it is happening, 'cause Musk is banning leftist activists at Andy Ngo's suggestion.

Same. I'm also keeping an eye on Cohost, but mostly I'm just waiting for the collapse and to see where people end up going.

Naturally, I'm also blocking every ad/"sponsored" post I see, and staying the Hell away from the "home" timeline because fark that algorithm bullshiat.
