That was my first thought as well. But I guess she must have been sick for quite a while and arranged it ahead of time.

Never a big fan during the 70s, but relistening lately with a new appreciation.

Huh.  I always assumed they were pom-poms on his vest.  Did not realize they were clunky wooden balls.

//Must have been really loud and annoying when he walked around.
//I guess the coke affected his fashion choices too.
//Sounds like he was trying to compensate for something...

I've always found guitarists who can pick out multiple melodies simultaneously with their fingers instead of strumming out one chord at a time to be impressive.

an old TFette friend who lives in LA, offered to let me crash her house when I was in town.  a modest bungalow just over the mountains, San Fernando valley.  said when she and her husband bought the home, the title chain had one "Mick Fleetwood" as an owner, in the late 70s.  I couldn't but wonder if the band ever stayed there, or if it was a mere coincidence, re the name.

story was semi-confirmed once. a guy said Mick Fleetwood, in that era, bought a shiatload of LA real estate but the market crashed and he got dimes for his dollar for his investment.

/other distant connection to FM;  my wife had a professional acquaintance with Stevie Nicks' brother, within the last 4-5 years.  he said it was the strangest thing, in the 70s, 80s, "to see my kid sister on the cover of, you know, 'Rolling STone', or hear here on the radio, Casey Kasem say her name."  aid they talked about once a month and whenever she played Phoenix, he got the super mega golden ticket VIP experience.

he was on Marc Maron podcast (not that he hasn't spoken of his style elsewhere, for decades) but anyways, 2-3 years ago he was on.  said, of his style, a guitar fell into his hands somehow and he just started pecking away at it. says, basically, he didn't the "right" way to play it, but started playing along to records and his own natural, "necessity is the mother of invention" fingerpick/clawhammer hybrid style developed itself.

something about not learning "chords" until he started playing with local bands.  "theyd be like, 'what are you doing?'  and i'd be like, 'what the hell are you doing?'"

Some of the guitarists who have impressive picking skills are said to "know all the chords".  :oP

She did arrange it ahead of time.  The auction happened before she died, and she herself contributed some items.

I believe they were the end of the flushing chain on one of them old timey toilets with the tank up near the ceiling.

I saw the auction posted on Insta, and I commented "THE BALLS!" because the balls from the Rumours album were included in the auction.  People took it as, "the balls of [Christine or whoever] to sell all these items." It was so stupid.  If people would scroll through photos, they'd see THE BALLS.  Some folks got it and laughed.

I honestly almost bid on them.  Even though I made my own pair years ago, I'd love to own the originals.

I always thought the balls in the picture were what Stevie Nicks took from Lindsey Buckingham.

Funny that I never noticed them on the cover of that album before.

And that when I did see them a couple of days ago, I figured they were sex toys.

Mick reported in his first autobiography that he had a habit of knicking the silver ball pullchains from his local pub's water closet back in the earliest days of FM. He can't recall what happened to the original set but he proudly wore them on his belt for the early years of van touring when the Blues Mac was still relatively unknown.

Kinda expected a higher sale. That's a pretty big piece of iconic pop culture. Two pieces, actually.

That's hilarious.  Mick always struck me as a man with a wicked sense of humor.

I'm sure they were. Odds are pretty good that they have been inside of every member of the band.

The auction had been planned for months. The auction company, Julien's, puts a lot into them. For this one, I received a box with three hardcover books showcasing the lots for sale. The box itself has a screen that lights up when opened and plays a full live performance.

Her untimely death a week before the scheduled auction caused bidding to skyrocket. This was the only item I was able to win (we needed new bedside tables anyway).
