God damnit....

This is all a ploy to build up Trevor Lawrence's frequent flier miles.

Sunday morning is still Thursday night in my house.

At least they're not moving another team to LA.

And they involve all the Jacksonville Jaguar games

Yes, I too remember the Claymores and the Dragons and other teams during the NFL's previous highly successful attempt to saddle Europe with NFL fandom.

Those rich f***s! This whole f***ing thing... I did not watch my buddies die face down in the muck so that this f***ing strumpet...

I don't see any connection to the Revolutionary War, Walter.

Well, there isn't a literal connection, Dude.

Walter, face it, there isn't any connection.

Meh. They'll probably be on some stupid streaming service so I can't watch anyway.

2022-12-09 8:13:45 AM
That's fine. Games being too early for the assholes on the west coast balances out the games being too late for us assholes on the east coast.

/Probably a good thing I haven't been able to watch the second half of the last couple Pats games, honestly

Deja vu all over again: I love Sunday morning football...when it's the Premier League.

I think the NFL might be a tad bit concerned about the growth of interest in the PL in the states.

Went to my first live game in London to see my Giants beat the Packers and I had a blast. I live in Germany and I hope they do bring more games here. From what I saw from the game that took place in Frankfurt and all the fun they had there, I want to go next season.

when Real Madrid's stadium renovations are done it's going to have a retractable pitch so they can roll in an American football surface, just like Tottenham's new place so look for them to get a game at some point

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Yes, I too remember the Claymores and the Dragons and other teams during the NFL's previous highly successful attempt to saddle Europe with NFL fandom.

WIth that said, a European division has a better chance to work than a European team on its own.

Half as lonesome as the sound
Of a network play by play guy
Sunday morning and fourth down

NFL Europe worked, it just wasn't profitable enough.  And with the shallow talent pool at QB and offensive line right now, the league could have used a developmental league over the last 15 years.

I mean I wouldn't expect people to watch D-League games too.  Between Europeans who like proper football and expats these things will sell out.

At least when I lived in Germany a not insignificant amount of people my age (geriatric millennial) did some time in the US and liked the NFL.

I think it lost 30 million a year, which is farking chump change for the NFL for the benefits having a developmental league could be (also while "growing the brand")

Feels like they're playing with fire here. Currently they are occasional enough to pique niche interest and draw some crowds.

Goodell is going to mistake that for having been successful in building a European market and over saturate

2022-12-09 11:49:29 AM
I'd be ok with it if:
A) I could actually freaking watch it
B) They were consistent with the freaking channel.

It's been almost as bad as the USFL with these early games.  One week it's NFL network, one week it's ESPN+ (Literally the only game of the entire season to be aired there!), one week it's CBS.  Make up your damn minds.  And preferably not the NFL Network because then I can't watch at all.

/If they want to rotate between Fox/CBS/NBC, i'd be ok with that.  But only that.

2022-12-09 12:09:01 PM
No wonder they like soccer so much over there if all they're generally given is the generic and boring NFL style of football with the shiattiest teams. That is like giving somebody a Subway "steak" sub and then being surprised they pass on steak when they have a chance at eating a good version.

Try being a longhorns fan with our shiattacular network.  These two games out of the year you have to find a bar that carries whatever farking cable provider has LHN this year.

Fortunately we've been bad enough that its just better to not watch football.

Use it to replace the Thursday night garbage game.

Teams are supposed to play an international game every 8 years. I don't see where either Pittsburgh or Dallas have done so.

I don't know.

Adding a European team could work fine. May want to divide the season for them into quarters - play 4-5 home games in a row, then 4-5 away games (and practice somewhere in the US instead of flying back/forth), then repeat. Adding teams could be tough. 32 divides really well. Maybe go to 36 teams - 18 per conference and only have three divisions with six teams in each? I don't know.

I suppose you could theoretically have a European division added to the league, but I haven't seen any creative proposals to make the home/away travel fair or feasible.

Asking a team to fly to the States from Germany or London more then 2-4 times a season is too much of a competitive disadvantage.

No NBC, they need to be airing EPL.

I bet the under on every NFL game played in Europe. Haven't lost yet. I do the same on the Thursday night games and I'm running around 75%.

There isn't a need to have them that early.  The kickoff for the Seahawks 2018 game in London was 10am Pacific Time.  That was no big deal because 10am kickoffs happen when Seattle is playing on the East Coast.

But that f*cking Munich game...having to wake up at 6:12 on a Sunday to get ready for a 6:30am kickoff.  Ugh.

/Attended the former.
//Kickoff was at 6pm in London.

There is, as we enjoy lunchtime kickoffs just as much as you. And we get one or two of those a season vs the *weekly* 1am-4am night games we either lose sleep on or dodge spoilers the following morning, and have done for decades.

Really? This year, Vikings-Saints in London was 28-25 and Giants-Packers was 27-22.

I'm calling BS on your success rate.

Actually there does. The number of teams is restricted for the primary reason of extorting taxpayer dollars to build colossal stadiums that are used a dozen times in a year. If there were more teams there would be less leverage to threaten to leave.
